which shifter are you guys using?

My Mazdaspeed has the Mazdaspeed shifter instead of the Sparco because they said the original shifter was stolen. The also said the Mazdaspeed shifter is more confortable, but I think it sucks!! I also find the shifter too short and ackwards. Yes I know it's a short throw shifter, but it sucks when I am racing. I can never shift too fast or I miss/grind 2nd gear. I have to shifter like a grandma from 1st to 2nd. The other shifts are OK. Did anyone change their stock shifter or knob for a different one? which one?

I love mine & I find the height to be just perfect. The 1-2 shift has known to be a little tricky, so I don't think that's because of the shift knob. I'm going to try getting the Kartboy shifter bushings & some Redline tranny fluid to improve the feel. You should try that for help with the shifts.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the shifter is too low, but I'm sure some P5 guys would be willing to trade with you.

As for the shift knob, again you can trade with an 03 MSP owner of just buy a different one. I like mine & I recently found out that the way you hold it & how you have your seat adjusted makes a big difference in how easy it is to shift.

i use an ICHIBAHN anodized orange shift knob. it fits perfectly in your hand. the only thing is, since its solid metal, its tends to get (cold in winter, hot in suimmer) but i have a monkey puppet that really likes to ride my shift knob(wink) which really solves that little problem. i prefer it to my sparco (too small) and the mazdaspeed (too large/does not fit to your hand).

I don't understand why so many people say the 1-2 shift is hard. I think it's extremely easy. This is probably the easiest car I've ever driven. The throws and clutch are like butter.

We don't have a true short shifter. We just have a shortened shift knob.
The Mazdaspeed one is okay. Not really comfortable in the hand. The Sparko one I like except that the piece of carbon fiber fake crap comes off very easily.
More or less, get a knob that you know that you will like. Plus I suggest get a short shift kit if you really want the true experience of that!

I actually find it very comfortable and don't have any trouble at all through any of my gears. When i first got the car it took a week or so to get used to but since then i haven't had any problems. maybe it just comes with time. good luck.

I hate the little Sparco knob.....no grippage at all....easy to miss shifts. The wife loves it though so it stays since it's her car. I like the big ass ball on my SRT.......too bad it isn't short throw like the MSP though.
