I've done plenty of searching, but I can't seem to find to right Optima Red Top to use on my MSP. I don't know anything about car batteries except that I believe the stock one is ~540CCA. Is is possible to have too many cold cranking amps? Which one fits right, and which post configuration can I use.

One last question: has anyone mounted the battery in the trunk? That would be nice for weight distribution.

its size 34. search ;)

dont mount it in the back. too much wiring to do.
no such thing as too many CCA :p

Our factory battery is a Group 35. I just bought the Group 35 Redtop and it is the same length and width as our factory battery. You will need to use the 3/4" thick plastic base that comes with the battery to make it the same height as our factory battery. Perfect fit and the posts are in the correct orientation.

i think you would want to keep the weight over the front wheels anyways unless your an autoXer

I'm not much for drag racing, so I'd prefer as close to 50/50 as possible.

Where did you get your Optima from, and do you happen to know the model number? I'd really appreciate it, thanks!

I bought mine at a Sears Auto Center. It was the only place in town that had a Group 35 in stock.

Cool, thanks. I checked their site and they are a little more than online, but I guess avoiding shipping costs is worth it.

Exactly! I have the same battery. Folks, make sure you get the specific battery for our cars.

Good to see that people agree on the size. I checked Optima's website and they don't have a match.

sorry to go a little off topic
but yellor or red, and would they both be group 35?

Yes. Group 35 for the Red Top and group D35 for the Yellow Top. They both have the same dimensions and post layout. If you're looking for a replacement for your stock battery, go with the Red Top. The Yellow Top is for heavy current drain applications for extended periods of time with the engine off.

Well, I just ordered the redtop #35 finally. I was holding out trying to find a place in town that sold them, but ended up finding a great little place online. $116.25 shipped to my door! If anyone is looking for an Optima, they are in Sunrise, FL, and their website is www.batteryweb.com
