Which Optima

I've done plenty of searching, but I can't seem to find to right Optima Red Top to use on my MSP. I don't know anything about car batteries except that I believe the stock one is ~540CCA. Is is possible to have too many cold cranking amps? Which one fits right, and which post configuration can I use.

One last question: has anyone mounted the battery in the trunk? That would be nice for weight distribution.

Spooled -

Our factory battery is a Group 35. I just bought the Group 35 Redtop and it is the same length and width as our factory battery. You will need to use the 3/4" thick plastic base that comes with the battery to make it the same height as our factory battery. Perfect fit and the posts are in the correct orientation.

I'm not much for drag racing, so I'd prefer as close to 50/50 as possible.

I bought mine at a Sears Auto Center. It was the only place in town that had a Group 35 in stock.

They sell the Optima Red's at Wal-Mart as well. Check there for prices.

Exactly! I have the same battery. Folks, make sure you get the specific battery for our cars.

Talk to JDMSam at Crossover Auto. He got mine and LinuxRacr's Red Top's and they were a perfect fit.

Good find. The funny thing is that that was one of the first places that I found it at online, but I never noticed that it was free shipping! SCO had the same battery for $99, but a $36 shipping charge...(jerkit)

Yes. Group 35 for the Red Top and group D35 for the Yellow Top. They both have the same dimensions and post layout. If you're looking for a replacement for your stock battery, go with the Red Top. The Yellow Top is for heavy current drain applications for extended periods of time with the engine off.
