hey all, i want to lower my car, but if i do the tires will rub. i need to get the wheels machined. is there a good cheep place to get them done in Garland or Richardson area? i thought about just having my stock wheels powder coated dark gun metal gray, but i was told that it might cost about the same, and that i was crazy for sacrificing my wheels just to lower the car.. help me out guys.

i don't know man. when we told the guy at the wheel shop those were the ones we wanted i didn't know that you needed an offset. i thought they just came that way. in fact if he knew that i needed an offset then he should have ordered them that way for me right?

WELL, its obvious that the guy that sold you the wheels only knew if the bolt pattern would fit or not and nothing else about wheels....so he led you down the path to slaughter and got you.

For starters....before you just have our wheels machined what is the offset NOW? it may not be a good idea to machine them of you have to remove too much material from the mounting pad.

well, the dealership will not know the offset of after market wheels thats my problem...lol

problem solved... i went to ADRWheels.com and looked up my wheel.. the size is 5x100/114.3 offset 40

ok now that i know the size and offset... what does that all mean?
what does the offset need to be so that the tires don't rub the finder?

there are a few more pieces of important information you need to know before you can properly determine the minimum offset you can get away with and not rub...

are these wheels 7" or 7.5" wide...and what size tires are you running on them?

IF you are running a 205 on a 7 inch wheel...then you SHOULD be able to get away with a +45 offset. if you are running a 7.5" wheel....you will need a +48...especially if you are running a 215 tire.

NOW, to know if you can SAFELY get away with machining between 5 and 8 MM off of the mounting pad of your wheels....I would contact the guys at AUTO R&D, like Rishie or one of the other guys that are all members of this board....and if you don't know who they are, Rishie owns/operates a performance wheel/tire/suspension shop in California.....he would be familiar with the ADR wheels and can tell you if its safe to machine them or not. To get ahold of them....go to the stickied post at the top of the wheel/tire/suspension forum and look for the FITMENT RECIPE thread....in the first post, which is Rishies post, there is the shops address and phone number. Drop a dime....call and talk to them personally.

wheel size is 5x100/114.3 offset 40 , tire size is 215/40R17 does that help you?

yes it does.....IF the wheel you have is 7 inches wide...you can get away with a +45....

if the wheel you have is 7.5 inches wide you need a +48

if you run less....you are going to rub.

i have no idea how wide the wheel or tires are. i guess i will just have to get a tape measure after it lol...
