I didnt exactly know how to word the title but im just curious as to who all are actual automotive mechanics and what you do for your job (specialization) and how long youve been in the field. I am adding a little more in my description just to give a little background on myself (feel free if you want to too!)

I just felt like making this to start a little tech thread since i love chatting with other techs, about mazdas mainly but anything in general about the field.

Heres my story-

I live in omaha nebraska, ive been working on cars since around 15-16 when i got my first vehicle. I graduated from a local community college last year with an associates in automotive technology, and i have been working in the field for about 2 years. I started out at a smaller privatly owned shop doing basic maitenence like brakes, suspension, lube, tune-ups, changing out simple gaskets here and there for about the first year and a half. And currently i am working at a full service shop where we do anything and everything, and heres the kicker im the "ONLY" employed Tech! I do anything from diagnosis/pulling engines and transmissions/installing aftermarket parts/engine overhauls/rebuilding diffs/managing the shop.

I absolutly love my job, and everyday im learning something new. I am currently not ASE certified yet, but i plan to get that done after i get around to moving closer to where i work (since im pretty sure ill be there for a while).

I guess the main reason i made this thread is to relate better with some of the forum members, and to overall get a better idea of how other techs in the field are doing and what their situation is.

You can post if your not a tech yet (aspiring techs), but lets try and stick with the basic idea i got going here.

Please lmk if this is the wrong area to post this thread, or lmk if theres something i should change about the idea i got going here.

Now post away!

Hey names Donny,

I've been wrenching on cars since about the age of 16, I just graduated from MATC Automotive technician program, I've worked at one independent shop while in school doing maintenance work mostly a few brake jobs and alignments. I quite about 4 months ago to move into a lube tech position at a major Toyota dealership here in Madison, I currently received a promotion to a mid level position where I do small warranty work alignments brakes and oil changes! I've passed all of my student ASE certifications! Just putting in my time to become a tech!

My name is mike... Ive been working on cars since i was 15... Took auto tech in highschool. Im a part time firefighter as well as a parttime tech at pepgirls.... They pay for all of your ASE's as well as state inspectors licenses.. Not a bad deal.. I get $7 flat rateand $16 extra per book hour...$700-$800 every 2 weeks part time isnt bad...lol.... If you have 1 by you, apply well worth i IMO!!!

oh gosh, where's Preferio at? Finally a thread for him where he can tell you about all of his experience and certifications all day long instead on every other thread...lmao!! Just kidding man

My name is Jerrod, I have been wrenching since I was 12....I build my dads kawasaki mach 3 that he had in boxes at that time....I grew up swapping v-8's into S-10's (i've done 5) I Joined the army and was out of the game for a while other than building a 97 dodge neon (stock 2.0 motor with turbo, only one in hawaii and should still be there) When I got out of the Army I went to Ivy Tech for automotive technology...I have been at a cadillac dealership for 2 and a half years now....I do it all here from bottem end northstars to head gaskets to oil changes....I love the work just hate where i'm at haha...my dream it to open my own performance shop and work on high performance stuff....now that cadillac is coming out with turbo stuff and i'm the only one here who really understands how a forced induction engine works it may be interesting to see what happens....but i'm sure that will be a while (and hope i'm not still here) seeing as 2013 is the first year they came out with turbo car....next year they are coming out with twin turbo 3.5 CTS that (on paper) puts down 420 WHP stock....looking forward to taking one of those on the road.....cool thread by the way :)

Does a 12volt technician count ? Lol I'm a mecp certified 12 volt technician. I do anything from car alarms to full audio systems. Been in the industry for about 8years now. I mainly like doing custom installs like iPad integration into vehicles.I'm by no means an automotive technician but figured I'd chime in.
