When to wax?

I have the following but did not start due to (4) and (5) below. Any advice, much appreciated and immense thanks!!
1. Meg clay-bar
2 Cleaner: P21S
3. Waxing: P21S
4. Looking for a good post waxing - paint protection? I did like this "nano-ceramic coating" but not sure if it can be DIY....
5. Anything special I need for my CX-5 is Soul Red, triple-coat and seems to have these gold dusts.

Put a ziplock bag on your hand and run it across the paint. You'll be able to feel the contamination.

Within a couple of weeks of purchase of our 2016 CX I washed, used a clay bar, and used a DA polisher with pinnacle 360 all in one cleaner. Results are great six months late. I'm planning to clsy bar and just add a paint sealant in the next couple of weeks.

In short no issues with waxing. Recommend you clay bar the paint first.

given the type of coating you're trying to put on, I would not use the P21S before applying the ceramic coat, because it needs to bond with the clear coat directly. Any other protective coating will ruin that bond. you can lay wax over the ceramic coat but would be redundant.

So I'd clay bar, then do an IPA wipe down and then lay down a ceramic coat.

Check out www.autogeek.com and look at some of their paint sealants. They have several that are very highly rated. I am going to be trying the Optimum Gloss-Coat paint coating in the spring when I'm able to get a good full polish done on the car. It's very similar to what the dealers install but made for DIY'ers and doesn't last quite as long, but at $60 bucks it's much cheaper then the outrageous prices the dealers charge for their coating systems. When I got the car I use Turtlewax Ice shine lock sealant. Very similar product but doesn't last as long.

With any of the paint sealant products out there you want to make sure your car is absolutely clean and free of scratches and swirls. I would suggest a good complete wash, followed by a two step polish (maybe just one) if you don't have scratches or swirls too bad. Then wipe down with a 15% Isopropyl Alcohol solution (w/ distilled water) IPA, and then do the sealant like gloss coat. You can follow up after the cure time with a nice carnauba or synthetic wax if you like for more shine.

Had my CX-5 I bought in November. detailed and treated with CQuartz UK last Saturday. Car looks awesome. Also when I carry a car in for service I tape a big ol sign on the dash DO NOT WASH... Dealer car washes will butcher a cars finish

I have two dealer services coming up for oil changes. Waiting until then to do full paint correction and put down a nice coat of wax.
