When are MS3 people getting 1st oil change?

I just hit 1150miles on my MS3 and I am trying to decide when to get the first oil change. My dealer told me to come in a 3K as this is what the service manual says however I'm thinking of doing it earlier. Say 1500 and then do one at 3k,6k,9k,etc.. I'm not sure if Mazda uses some kind of break-in oil or what? Just thought a good 'syn oil' change would be a good idea at this point

Any thoughts??Txs

heh i did my first at 400 miles, then my second at 3400. switched to synthetic...will now go every 4500-5k.

i don't have a speed tho.

i did my first change at 1200 miles (i'm used to BMW's) and switched to synthetic. then changed it again at 3000. i will now change every 3000 miles.

I plan on doing my speed's first change soon, at 2k. I'll go 4-5k between changes with redline syn after that.

I did my first at 1000 miles. Now I will do every 6 months or 6K. Whichever comes first. I also use 5w/20 in winter, and 5w/30 in summer.

Yeh' I'm coming from German cars(VW and Audi) although as you can tell from my avatar I did have a MSP for a time(fun car!).My MSP was used as were the VW's and Audi's I've owned so this is really my first experience with a new car break-in. Just want to make sure I do it right(2thumbs). Thinking of trying some Royal Purple 5-30. The Walmart by me sometimes has it on special.

i rep valvoline for conventional and mobil 1 for synthetic and have NEVER had an oil related problem.

My first change was at 3K miles. I plan to change at 5K intervals and use synthetic from here on out.

by the way, when i changed it at 1200 miles, the oil was black as night. just give the engine some time to break in on the regular oil and then switch to synthetic after at least 1000 miles.

1000 miles changed with dino oil
3000 miles changed to blended
5000 miles changed to full synth.

now change every 3000 with full synth.

Just like everything else that's indivdualized, there's no guidelines in the manual for this. Everyone will do what they want/think.

I did my first at 1K, next will be 3K, then every 3K from there. Mobil1 5W-30 with Mazda filter (for my first one there wasn't even enough info out for an aftermarket filter #)

Get that engine flowin with the good stuff ASAP :)

Someone posted their Blackstone oil analysis in the regular MS3 forum and it showed that the factory fill is 5W-20.

Related question -- Why are folks reluctant to use synthetic at the first oil change? If the Mobil 1 ads are to be believed, Porsche, among others, uses Mobil 1 as factory fill.

i have sent my UOA to Blackstone, should hear from them in a week or so. roughly 11k on the clock, 6k stock or w/ intake. 1k on crap tune, 4k on awesome tune. will post up the results when i get them.

Edit: o and about a dozen autox's in those tuned miles as well

Just got finished with the first oil change. 1442miles. You guys are right. The orig oil filter is on there tight!. Are they using gorillas to put these things on at the factory or what! My stock filter(LF8J 14 302) had the FoMoCo on it like everyone else's. It did also say Mazda Motor Corp on it though. Used 5.7quarts of Royal Purple 5w-30 with a Royal Purple filter (10-2835). Pep boys had a special on that combo. I've never used RP before so I'll see if it's any good. Anyway glad to get that orig oil out of there(it looked pretty dirty) and get some good quality synthetic flowing.

I got rid of the factory oil with an change at 780 miles. I had dealership put in their semi-synthetic at that interval. I then switched to Amsoil 5w30 Synthetic at just under 4,000 miles. I then changed again at around 10,750 and will change it again in the springtime when I take the Speed out of storage with around 17,925 miles. (I've also been using the factory Mazda oil filters also.)

I basically can get away with one oil change a year in March/April with the Amsoil since I only average 6-7K miles for the 6 months out of the year that I drive it.

pulled directly from mazdausa.com:

Does Mazda recommend the use of synthetic oil?

Mazda has specific recommendations on the type of oil to use in your Mazda. To determine which oil should be used, consult your owner's manual.

manual says conventional 5w30.
