2008 Mazda5 5MT Sport w/ Popular Package
...Got the crazy bug and bought a 2007 Mazda5..., LOL, baloney.

Wife and I took the little one to the doctor. I drove there as well as it was in the way to work. In the way out another grocery getter was parking next to us, 3 kids, 2 booster seats in the 3rd row. When I asked "How you like your car?" she just laughed at us...

Took a phone pic, looked funny...

You had me going there, I thought you pulled the trigger on another one, LOL!

I have thought about buying a 2nd one, but a MT 5spd...

But I have put off buying another 5, until Mazda's next new cool car, whichever that may be. (help)

(laugh), don't blame you, it is fun having 2 of the same, but my need was greater than my desire. A Mazda will definitely be on the top of my list on the next car purchase round, but possibly not 2 of the same again.

I see some cool cars on your sig's list, especially rotaries, so a 2009 RX-8 R3 perhaps? I also like the new 2.5L Mazda6 6MT, but I would wait for the 2010 or so, just in case (they may also have a nice aero kit by that time, the 2009 looks a little bit flat w/o it). Oh, and I would also like to check the upcoming Mazda3 (naughty)

When you said "until Mazda's next new cool car, whichever that may be." I think it will be either the next-gen RX-8 or the "next new cool car" a RX-10(in 2009) with the new 16X rotary engine.

For me the next generation rotary, next Mazda3, or mazdaspeed2 are on my short list. But I am always on the lookout for a very nice GSL-SE, or Turbo II.

Back on topic though, what are the biggest differences you feel/notice between your two 5's?

what are the biggest differences you feel/notice between your two 5's?

When I just purchased the 08, just the new feel and scent of course, but now that I swapped cars with wife (due to the 2nd row A/C, mainly):

  • I think I posted it somewhere here, but the 08 is a little bit more fuel efficient, by 1mpg or so

  • The 08 shifting is a little bit "tighter" than the 06. Not much difference, but when I drive the 08 during the weekends I have trouble shifting to 5th for example. It is just a silly difference from one to another, but as soon as I'm used to it, it is OK, there are no troubles with the gearbox

  • The cabin of the 08 is more silent. Funny enough wife the other day said you have to put more force into closing the sliding doors and liftgate (scratch). As a test I just basically opened a window to relieve air pressure and no problem closing at all then, so it seems just better "insulated". It is not the "new" effect, that is for sure

  • Ride is pretty much the same but the 08 acceleration feels more linear, uniform. I'm sure this is due to an updated PCM, which I'll try to get for the 06 in the next service

  • The 06 OEM tires are still OK but they've developed a subtle humming at cruise speed. As we know, they are kind of crappy anyway

Nothing else that I think of, some other things will come to mind so I'll post them
