I got a 2002 PR5. What are the best, as far as performance, Wheel and Tire combination for these vehicles. I am driving on street only-no track. I want optimum handling, cornering, etc...What is the best rim size? 17? 18? 16? 18" x 8", 17" x 6.5" ??
What do you guys think?

Running an old set of Konig 17X8" with Kumho asx 205/40/17 and it'll hug corners going into school at 30mph just fine. Very good grip, I have to try pretty hard or be turning sharp to get tires to spin. (Speed limit is 60 and there's no turn lane, not a road you want to turn slow off of). Good wear on the tires so far.Previous owner put them on at 113XXX miles and at 128K they have way over 60% tread left. Also they've been great in rain thus far. Even with wet roads they haven't slipped. (Not sure about snow yet)

EDIT** Do you rub at all on those 18s?

by far my most favorite wheel setup for this car is the RX7 FD wheels. they're cheap, light, and pretty wide for what they are. They come in 16x8 and as light as 16lbs(depending on the year will give or take a couple pounds). I had some Bridgestone RE-01's mounted on them and the car gripped VERY well on any turn i took. you'd be surprised how much more torque you get moving from a 18" wheel to a smaller 16" wheel lol. i believe i got my set of 4 w/ tires for around $250 of craigslist

I never rub...well there was this ONE time...I was taking a right turn at about 20 mph and hit a dip in the road just right; the righ rear rubbed very quickly. These 18's are very heavy. I dont even want to guess what they weigh. I like the looks of 17's but I'm not against 16's. I an currently shopping around. I say a set of factory 16's on Craigslist for a cheap enough price, but they are locate far away from me.

I have stock 16's with Goodyear eagle gt's (205/50/16) and I love them. Hit 35mph corners goin 65mph and it doesn't pull out of my lane.
