what's going on with my MS3?

I've had it for a week now and already have 401 miles on it. When I got it it only had .8 miles. Anyways, right when I drove the car off the lot I was already hearing this squeeking noise from the right rear. It sounds like the interior part rubbing against something. I know I hear this thing alot when i lower a brand new car but this car is untouched.

Another thing I noticed. My second gear feels like it grinds when its cold but after driving the car for about 10 mins thats when it shifts smooth. I know it is not necessary to warm up the car but I still do every morning for about 3-5mins. Even though the temp gauge is already warmed up I can still feel a little grind on the second gear. Is this normal?

What's you guys shift point for normal driving?
On all my cars I shift at 2.8K-3.5k rpm for normal driving. (flat land)

I hope it's nothing serious but I'm bringing the car back in this Friday for the final touch. (clear coat protection) :)

I have the same thing in second so thats normal, I also have a number of squeaks but none like you described.

wow. sorry to hear that. I know it sucks to hear others that haven't suffered such issues. but my MS3 is also a week old tomorrow - and I put 850 miles on it so far!

absolutely no squeaks, rattles, rubs, nuttin. tomb quiet at cruise speed.

what do you mean you don't need to warm up the car? i know thet even in the summer for me i warm my 3000gt up bc even though the engine is warm it doesn't mean the transmisson is all the way warmed up

maybe there is an additive like that red line stuff. it's an additive for your transmission fluid. like synchro mesh.

man! sorry to read about your troubles.
i've read that other people grind second too but i havent noticed it.
i feel bad telling you that i have no squeeks or rattles either so no i dont think your situation is normal.
i would make sure to bring this up whe you go back to the dealer so they can check it out.
good luck.

Yeah my 2nd gear feels like that too. I think it is normal. I also let me car warm up to normal Idle in the morning before driving, and even then I dont lay on it till it really warmed up. My 2nd gear pretty much does it all the time, but mostly when its cold. I dont have any squeaks though.

Hmm... no problems here. No noise, rattling or anything. But we always let our MS3 warm up about 5 minutes in the morning before we start driving and also let it idle about 1-2 minutes before shutting it off, even on short errands.

Thanks guys for the quick respond. It really sucks having to own 2 brand new mazda and both have problem (for me) like this. First my p5 with the cold start noise that the damn dealer can not find and now this 2nd gear on my MS3. Now I really miss those good 'ol days with my civic ex :). I don't really care much about that squeak but the grind "ouch" that hurts me everytime I shift it to 2nd. Anyways, i will definitely bring this up to the dealer.

Thanks,
Tjay

I don't warm mine up unless there's ice on the windows. I'll start it up and drive off. I just keep the load off the motor for the first several miles and never beat on it until I've been in it for about 10-15 minutes.

So far i have no sweaks, grinds or anything. I warm mine up a few minutes then haul ass up the road. I just hit 600 miles so its still fairly new, but i guarentee its broken in already..LOL

What will an aftermarket ss do for grinding gears?

nothing.

I just installed the twm shifter bushings and they improved the feel of the shifter but the car still grinds second until it has been warmed up. Better tranny fluid may help however.

Hmmm I am wondering what the "grind" is since some people have it and some dont. Maybe Ill have to check with my dealer next time I go in. Let me know what your dealer says 1ofdfew323 .

Thanks.

I know I was just curios as to what he thought it would do.

Well my third and fourth grinds and its because I need new syncros, so maybe some of you guys need syncros.

Letting your engine warm up doesn't do anything for the transmission. The second gear synchro's are a bit tough due to there being such a big ratio difference between first and second. Just be easy on shifting until the gear oil is serving it's purpose and making the shifts nice and smooth.

It's been really cold up here in Michigan, so every once in a while I'll just wind to 4000rpm in first and then go directly to third to avoid pissing off second. Obviously, after about 5-10 minutes of driving second responds perfectly fine. This seems like an issue some synchromesh gear oil or redline could fix no problem.

I think I'm hearing the same random squeek just like you are, I can't seem to place it worth the life of me, either it's my seat, the passanger seat, or something in the back, but it's really strange. Also, I can't seem to hear it when the weather jumps up into the 30's or 40's. (It's like 21 degrees outside right now, with heavy winds)
