What's a good pasta wine?

I would say go with a Dry white wine. What else are you having with it. That can also make a difference. I'm a total wino when I have it around and I usually don't care. The white would be the standard choice but it's really up to you and what you like. It's not some tragedy if you have a red. I'm more partial to those myself anyway and I'll have red with anything
 
I was thinking of making a fetuccine recipe i found on recipe.com or something, its called to die for fettucine. I was thinking garlic mashed potatoes and possibly some veggies as an appetizer. What do you think? I'm open to all suggestions, this is the first time I really made a romantic type meal.
 
Really...with wines you can drink what ever you like with whatever you like. There are set rules, and somethings go better with some foods, but it's all personal preference.

For pasta though, I'm a big fan of Rieslings...nicely carbonated, sweeter, and very crisp. For a blush, white merlot if you can find it...I think beringer makes it fairly exclusively. I'm not a huge fan of whites, but if you spend about 10$ for a bottle of white you'll be ok. If you spend about 20-50$ (for *any* wine) on a bottle you're gonna get a great wine...beyond that, only real connoisseur is going to notice.

If you're looking for a good desert wine (also good for celebrations) I highly suggest Rosa Regale. Amazing stuff. For champagne I suggest Veuve Clicquot. All up to you.

But I will get peaved if your gonna use my helpful suggestions on *that* girl...(smash)

I'm a big fan of robust, spicy wines myself; Shiraz and the like. But for fettucini, if you're having any sort of tomato or tomato sauce in the mix, go for a nice chardonnay. If your pasta will have any meat in the sauce, or as a side, try some merlot or pino grigio. Maybe for desert, if you have a particularly sweet desert, some sweeter wines, such as port or a sweet Madeira... It helps cut the sweetness a little bit, as the wine acclimates you to the taste.
 
Well I'm not one for wine, but I love cooking... I make alot of italian dishes.. and my parents or some friends of mine whom like to drink wine will drink something like a Riesling. I end up using a Muscat in some of my cream sauces and people will finish off what I don't use in the sauce and they seem to like it.... hope that might help a little.. lol

Typically; Red meat / sauces: Red Wine - White meat / sauces: White Wine.
I like a Chianti with pasta, personally. But; there's lots of choices.

That's not exactly true. (however as with anything delaing with wine everyone has there own opinion) Most Reislings go for under $10 and are really good. I personally try to keep my wine under $15. Usually anything from 20-50 is a bit over priced and no one except conesours will notice the diference. For Fetucinni, a good white, Chardonay woudl be good but it sometimes can be a bit over powering and dry for some. If you're new, I'd recomend a reisling or maybe even gewurtztraminer.
For sparkling/champange I personaly like Asti/Spumante it's a bit sweeter then champange and is also quite cheap.
However as anyone can tell wine is completely a personal taste, some people like some wines with everything it's kidna fun and can be a bad/expensive hobby.
I personally like Pinot Noirs from Oregon, Otherwise a nice Ruby Port and some chocolate is a good treat too.
 
Get a average priced Pinot Grigio....yummy........Italian Wine
