what year rx-7 is best?

03.5 msp
I know this is probally tired but I am thinking about buying an rx7 but dont really know too much about them. basically I just want to know is whick year would be best to buy, problems with engines itseems like alot of rx7s engines are being rebuilt around 60000 miles. what are the engines capable of, like how much boost can they handle and what not. I have a mazdaspeed protege and it's just not worth the money to build to me. is a rx7 even worth hte money to build I am just not really sure.

IMO the best rx7 to buy is an FD *if you have $13,000 to buy a nice one with*. But BY FAR the easiest/best performance for the money you can buy is a 2nd gen turbo or build a turbo vert 8). For $4k you can get a VERY VERY nice TurboII 87-91' and with an extra $5k into it you can have a very very reliable 300rwhp car which is including a ported rebuild (cheaper if you do all the work yourself)

*Reliable* boost levels (with the right supporting mods/tune) is around 13psi from my experiences. With my vert, 88' jdm 13bt 42,00miles, I was running 12psi with a Front mount I/C, ported wastegate, 2.5" exhaust, 680cc's, FD pump, FCD and could beat my friends 03' clk320 vert from 0-130mph, I could bury my need past the 150mph speedo and got there alot faster than you would think (nailbyt). I never opened my motor but it had external mods done to it when I got it so we think it might have had an internal port job. The engine sounded really mean and was alot faster than my buddies 86' gxl (s5 turbo engine) which doesn't make sense cause he had more bolt-ons then me including a chipped ecu and weighed 500lbs lighter.

You cannot go wrong with a 2nd gen rx7. They just looks so dam mean and get tons and tons of looks including from girls at the beach. I plan on getting another vert soon enough or build a rotary isuzu pickup/ sport lowrider

The BEST way to approach this is simple... Because of the age of RX-7s now, I wouldn't worry about looking for a particular year or time level... I would just buy the nicest one you can afford... Remember, most of these cars have now been through more than 1 owner, and NEED constant upkeep.... Ask for receipts.....

Your welcome....now you have to do your research and find a good RX-7 mechanic...he will be your best friend...remember the Rotary engine is Exotic...especially the FD. It is very reliable if set up correctly. You are gonna have some fun!!!
