What was your first job?

First paying job - junior counselor at a camp when I was 13. I made I think $750 for the summer. Let's see... 7 hours/day, 5 days/week, 10 weeks. Works out to about 2.14/hour.

When I turned 15 I got my first "year round" job. I worked as the cart and bottle boy (we recycle bottles and cans in NY) at Waldbaums (grocery store). Who remembers Waldbaums? I made $3.25/hour but had to pay union dues, so it was more like $2.60/hour. Ah the good ole' days....

Ben

P.S. Waldbaums gig was back in 1987....lasted ~ 6 months.

Not counting farm work, my first paycheck job was at 15/16 yrs old working the summer for the County Commission On Aging. Basically go help the elderly with house painting, mowing lawns (got tips!), landscaping, etc. One stint was a couple weeks helping an old guy that had just lost a leg. Keep him company, etc. until the afternoon day-nurse arrived. Had to clean out his bedpan, but he also had huge old barge of a car (Eldorado maybe?) that had 400hp that I got to drive a couple times to get grocerys for him. He had lots of old stories about driving that thing flat out on drives to Vegas.

When I was going into 8th grade, I spent my summer detassling corn in central Illinois. On the bus at 3:30am for a 1 1/2 hour drive (no pay for the bus ride) to the fields, then work ALL damned day, rode the bus home (again, no pay for the bus ride) and got home just in time for bed. Bleeding hands and all.

It taught me alot, though...now I have a good office job.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. The worst. :(

Evening paper route when I was 13 till I was 16. It was a nice job, pretty easy, didn't have to collect money, got $0.10 per customer, 6 days a week.

I was a dishwasher at apple-*******-bees. Back then the minimum wage was 4.25 so I was stoked to make 5 dollars an hour. Worst job I ever had. Although, watching the cooks give sneezers to bad customers was pretty damn funny.
