What Tires should I get?

Ok, I know there have been posts concerning the best tires for the money, but I want to know from you guys who have actually tried some of these tires. I'm going to keep my stock rims and just replaces the rubbers I've basically got slicks now, hehe.

205/45/88 -17... I don't really want to go with a lower profile tire because in my opinion it will make the wheels even more awkward on the car.

I've hear Pirelli offers a good tire and yokohama, but I just want to know what you guys think?

Other members may have other opinions, but I recently put Kumho 712's on my car ('01 ES) and for the money they seem to be excellent tire. Much better wet grip then the stock Dunlops.

i put a set of yokohama es 100's on the mp3 about a month ago, they grip great for the price, and better wet traction than the dunlops. plus they were only like 360 something for the set shipped i think.

I have Kumho 712's (215/40/17) on Racing Hart MP3 wheels on my Protege5 and Yokohama ES100's (195/50/15) on my 10AE Miata and I say the ES100's all the way. I'll be switching to the ES100's on the Protege5 once the Kumhos wear down. I love the ES100's and they're so quiet.

I'll probably be the only person to hate on the Kuhmo's but so be it. Let me put it to u staright. They f**king suck! There is no traction in comparison to the dunlops. The dunlops may wear fast but the SP9000's are a superior tire by far compared to any Kuhmo. If u have the green get the BGGoodrich KD's. Those will last and they will give the best, yeah i said it the best traction for our lil tires. And if not i would point u in the direction of some Yoko's. I have heard great stories about the Parada Spec 2's.

The BF KD's aren't available in the size he's looking for. I personally hate Kuhmos, they're a true bandwagon tire. Sure they're good for the price, but everyone had them because they're so damn cheap. I say go for the AVS ES 100's or pay a little extra green and try something different like I was going to a give the Pirelli PZero Nero's a shot. If your one of those people who only base a tires grip solely on it's tread pattern, you'll want to stay away from the Nero's. These are just my thoughts though.

Okay I am going to put in my opinion here....and that is exactly what it is, not persoanl experience, but based on the research I have done so far....I would go for the Yoko Parada Spec 2's....I know I am ..... they will be delivered on my new wheels in about a month....as soon as the wheels get to Rishie's shop from Japan. I have heard great stories about Falken tires. They also protect the rims better than a lot of tires because of the extent of the lip. I have witnessed the protection on a certain yellow MP3 (Jag61180's). He it a monster pothole, and the rim was unscathed! Plus the ties have great traction. I don't recall exactly which ones he had.

Bandwagon tire or not, the Kuhmo's 712 are cetainly better then the Dunlops.

The whole time I had the Dunlops the car would hunt and search in rutted roads. The same roads with the Kuhmo, no worries. I don't have to chase the steering wheel nearly as much. The car feels squarely more planted.

They handle the road just as well, if not better than the Dunlops. I wasn't happy with the Dunlops, that's why I went to a different tire.

And yes, I chose the Kuhmos over other tires because for the price, they are awesome. Sure there are better tires, but for a lot more money than the Kuhmos.

Stutters u hit it right on the dot... well mostly. If u want a car that takes the road and is " "soft" then no tire will make the MP3 do so. Stutters i know u love ur MP3 and love the car for what it does, handling. U knew this as a buyer of the car. If u want a car that is going to give on a rutted road then go get a Caddy or Olds and cruise but if u want to sling through the corners like he MP3 was made for than get some high performance low profile tires that grip like no tomorrow. And in no way are the Kuhmo's a satisfacotory "deal". Yeah maybe for the money they are ok rubber but when u have ur life depending on the very tires of ur car then the money should not be a hang back. Go all out and spend some extra green and get the real deal not some cheap tires.
I mean over in Asia Kuhmo is like saying Futura. Its plain and simple they are s***. And i happend to jump the band waggon and get them so now i am here to take the pain of having to suffer from these tires.

Spec 2's

Hey, I got a hook up at TireRack.com, is anyone interested in doing a group purchase through them and seeing what kind of deal we could get? I'd be interested in getting Yoko Parada Spec 2's, but not until after this winter.... but I could call and see what I can do for now.

i bought a set of falkens to replace my dunlops. i actually like them better. they aren't quite as sticky as the dunlops, but they do stick really well. they are better than the dunlops in the rain and mud (i live in south louisiana and the cane farmers are having their way with the roads at the moment). i autocrossed them once and they held great, but i drove too slow. not to mention, they look good on the car, too. i was in a bind and had to get them from sears - a horror story in itself, but i did manage to get all 4 wheels re-powdercoated and a nasty ding i picked up at the bank was removed.

No offense...Believe me, my first choice would been a set of Michelins. But, my pocket book got slapped hard with the turbo install and there was no way it was gonna handle really awesome tires. Once again, Kuhmos are bad tires and are the best bang for buck that I have seen. Magazines agree.

However, I must say again, that the Kuhmo's have out done the Dunlops in the light snow we are getting here tonight. On the Dunlops I wouldn't be able to get going for crap in second gear. With the Kuhmos I can get moving better.

It will fit.. But I think it has something to do with width. Or something or other.

AZXMP3 has them and for some reason they looked a lot higher profile than my dunlops.

The snow isn't what the Dunlops were meant for. They are high performance summer tires and judging any summer tire by its performance in the snow isn't a great comparison. Sorry guys, but I just had to throw my thoughts in there.
