I am seriously considdering a Supercharger or a Turbo since i saw the dyno sheet for the 2.0 with intake cams and exhaust.. i was thuroughly dissapointed... if i go the F/I way what should i get a superchager or turbo? and reasons why... i dont know a ton about turbo's or superchargers... also what would be better on my pocket book in the long run... or should i forget about F/I and keep my car NA and get around 200 Flywheel HP by keeping it NA????

Also why is everyone on the board bashing Thomas Knight... has anyone tried his stuff.. right now his Superchager is looking like its the best for me..... but i dont know...

i need some help and input....

Chris

Chris,

where did you see a dyno sheet "for the 2.0 with intake cams and exhaust"?

I'd recommend going turbo and unless you really know what you're doing, wait for a turbo kit to come out. There are exactly ZERO companies working on a supercharger for 3rd gen mazda proteges. Also, you'll get better gains with a turbo.

You can TRY Thomas Knight but, be warned. Their stuff isn't quality and not recommended. Their F/I applications are crude and NOT made to fit our cars. Don't take my word, do a search on probetalk.com

If you're only concerned with dollar per horse power. Get a 50 shot of from ZEX.

BTW, there's now an F/I forum that has very good info. ;)

Do a search and type in "Dyno Results". A couple of guys dyno'd there cars on here with a few mods a while back.

honestly, the is no "dyno sheet". Some dude NC___ something or other said 3 different guys got some questionably low gain off of an AEM intake, intake and exhaust cams, and bosal exhaust. Personally, I don't believe those numbers until I see and ACTUAL dyno sheet. The numbers just don't add up...

However, spoolinMP3's turbo numbers do actually make sense.

If you want to see some real dyno graphs of mods on the FS block go to www.probenet.com and look at that website...a world of info on our engines if you are even thinking about going Forced Induciton...so far it seems me and Spoolin and maybe a couple other people in the US have turbos on the Protege so its still a very new concept for the Protege.

NC____?? That is me bud, and the dyno numbers are from a few other guys who I don't believe would lie. I have the cams too, and yes they feel like only about 5-6 whp.

NO2 is one thing i DONT want to get b/c it is instant and isnt constanly... i want something ill always have.... it did seem like the numbers were kinda low for the cams intake and exhaust....

also is it true about the S-AFC being overridden from the ecu at WOT??? if so how and why does the computer do this... i would rather not spend a grand on a stand alone management system....

It is true the SAFC will not work on WOT.
This is a very well known fact in mazda circles. I tried it on my miata and then went stand alone.

Honestly, I have a hard time believing that a bosal exhaust, AEM intake, fs-ze intake cam, and mazdaspeed exhaust cam yields a mere 7whp. It doesn't add up. You, yourself wrote "Numbers probably aren't exact."

Bosal claims that their cat-back adds 5whp and mazdamotorsports says "this intake cam from the Japanese Sport 20 will add 12 hp to your FS engine". In addition, mazdaspeed is a reputable company and I don't believe they'd produce a cam that gained only 1 or 2whp.

I'm just wating for an actual dyno chart that compares stock to modified. I want to compare area under the curve as well as peak numbers.

NC_MP3, please dyno your car and remove all doubt. I'm not trying to call anyone a liar but, the numbers seem fishy to me.

None like the S-AFC will work with our cars at WOT. I fyou want complete fuel tuning then get a stand alone. That is about your only choice for tuning across your entire throttle band.

whats your vortec fmu like??? how much did it cost you and what does it do.... is it the same vortec as vortec superchargers???

yes it is the same company that makes the supercharger...but it is only used in Boost situations. It raises fuel pressure directly related to Boost. It won't help you if you are goign NA.

what computer management system like the S-AFC would you suggest for me that WILL work at WOT...

Check out the unichip. It's piggyback and costs $500-600 + tuning costs (that's half the price of a stand alone).
