Mazda CX-5 2016.5 GT AWD
First of all, wanted to say thanks to everyone in this forum. I read quite a bit of posts here when finally deciding to buy my new 2016.5 CX-5 GT. I'm all setup and will be going to finalize at dealership and pick up my new baby Saturday morning.

That being said, does anyone have any strong recommendations on what options to get while I'm there? I've heard good things about the OEM floor mats and cargo mats but was wondering what everyone thought of all the other options. Just in case it matters- live in Chicago. Thanks!

First of all - i accept the gratitude on behalf of all posters.
I only got one accessory - the cargo mat. It is very useful on 16. It has pockets on side for dangerous liquids like cleaners / quick detailers etc. Even if there is a spill - this will handle it. I put my dripping micro fiber cloth after washing a car in these pockets.

Other than that - floor mats only if you get your shoes out / dirty. Door sills etc are personal option. There are LED door sills - which are nice. Finally the unicorn of all accessories - Front grille wing illumination - I have seen some sites list for 16.5 but i know its available for 2017. It is the same illuminated grille on Mazda 6. Priced north of $400.

Other than these accessories there are body kits if you are interested from
Ducks Garden
Damd
Kenstyle
Admiration
+ few others on japanparts.com
Front and rear lips / bumper appliques run from 200+ to 800 USD. There are DRLs / Paddle shifters etc. all kinds of things.
Since I have a touring I may get a iJDMToy DRLs for $ 109
There are some really cool aftermarket trims for the side plastic panel - but again pricey.

Other than above - you have your run of the mill interior LED. There are door rubber seals that do extra padding - never used them. You can use silicon tubing to "insert" if stock door seals for better noise insulation.

Thanks for the quick response! The reason I was considering the floormats as well is for when it snows in Chicago and we end up tracking crud into the car.

Other than that, the cargo cover seems like it could have some potential uses.

Damd side protector - nice

For the snows and lots of run off water, you may wanna forego the stockers and opt for a little nicer in Weathertech. I plan to get these as well, and opt out on the accessories from the factory. They make a nice cargo mat too, but Kaps has me thinking of the factory for the pockets...

Cargo cover is unanimously agreed by members here as the best accessory for CX-5. Now there're some aftermarket imitators with cheaper price but don't know the quality. OEM cargo tray with 2 pockets is nice and there're many aftermarket CX-5 cargo trays available too.

I have OEM all weather mats they're fine for my use. As for expensive WeatherTech floor liners, I don't like the half-covered dead pedal design which looks cheap. And:
The Weathertech are great in every aspect... Except for one thing. They didn't raise the plastic to prevent dirt from filling the base of the throttle pedal. Stupid flaw.
I couldn't agree more. I purchased the Weather Tech liners because I've had great experiences in the past, but how they designed the liner by the gas pedal is a HUGE flaw. We park on a slight incline and any water held in by the liner, drains right into the gas pedal area flooding the carpet underneath. If there is any standing water on the mat, eventually it will flow into that area which does not have a lip.....completely useless.

I'd get the rubber floor and cargo mats if your the outdoors type, or even just enjoy going places where dirt or snow exists. Other than that, I've never seen anything I'd buy at the dealership for my CX5

Thanks for this. Just going to get them to throw in the floor mats and cargo tray for free with the deal I'm about to get and forego the Weathertechs, although they've been highly worth it in my Tundra and other cars...

Agreed. They won't be selling me anything else but an oil filter...

Should help to keep sprayed muck of the car sides, which I get even with the Mazda flaps,

What keeps the muck off that pretty thing, though?

Really, I don't get this item at all. Maybe if there were a video of it in a mud-bog redirecting spray like a boss? I dunno. Looks like all it really does is keep dollar bills off your savings account.

Cargo cover! Best design for a cargo cover I have ever seen. Don't get the all weather floor mats from Mazda. They are just floor mats, for the Chicago climate I would strongly suggest you get some floor liners. The difference is that floor liners come up the sides of the foot well providing more coverage and better protection. There is no one best floor liner, they all have their own minor flaws but are still better then the all weather floor mats. Weathertech, Husky liners and Aries/3D liners are all excellent options. FYI on the Aries liners, they removed the lip by the gas pedal and none of their stock photos show the change. I went with weather techs and just got some stair tread to cover the exposed dead pedal area for the winter.

I think the Mazda all weather floor mats are kind of meh. I think the weathertech might be a better bet.

Mazda all weather floor mats have served me perfectly fine through two heavy snow laden Maine winters. The dead pedal has a bit of dirt on it, but nothing requiring any extra protection.

Now, it you're one who isn't prone to knocking the snow off your boots, you might have some issues. But that's not the floor mats fault.

I have no problem with the OEM weather mats. Then again I got them off Craigslist for $20. But I think they do a pretty good job. The cargo mat for the trunk is very nice though. No worries anymore about putting my dog back there and if she's muddy or not.

Yea, I've already renigged on getting the Mazda floor mats. Unless of course, they just wanna give em to me, but a $20 pair from
Craigslist will suffice and are just as good...

Yep, this thing is cray cray. More plastic and hideous...

Thanks guys, this is all great information. I'm leaning towards just mats and cargo tray now - anything to help things spilling in car from things related to new baby. You guys are the best, less than 24 hours until I go pick up the car!
