What have you done to your MSP today?

well the tip was angled, yes. But on the Apexi, the exhaust come out at a angle facing up -- JDM stylez yo'. It looks sick. Although the 5.5" tip or whatever is just ludacris...

As for the sound, above 3krpm it's a little bit louder, but below 3krpm it's quieter. My theory is because it's just straight piping back to the muffler. The Vibrant had a cat and resonator, both quieting the sound from the exit (aka: behind and outside the car), but i feel like they probably added to the in-cabin vibrations (noise). And that's why the apexi sounds quieter to me, the driver.

you mean the tip angles up?! that's EDM man, very popular with the VW and Audi rice crowd, or Kraut as we like to call it. Not my boat, never really liked the look of it, but more power to ya, glad you found something you like. No cat and angled up might leave more soot on the rear though. and 5.5" is gynourmous, damn. Post pics!

Is it actually an old-school proper type-s or is it the new crappy RS version? (Blue vs. Purple). If its the RS, ditch it and get a real BOV (HKS SSQV). The RS gave me nothing but problems, I broke two of them, and well they are complete crap.

If its actually a type-s you should be alright. They are quality. But the SSQV's still sound a bit better imho!

Either way, good luck man!

word, i rock the typr s and it is sturdy as hell for being as old as it is, greddy should have never made the change.

no no no, that's gay as aids. The entire exhaust piping goes under the rear axle, and then up just under the bumper so the whole thing goes upward. im not a just-the-tip kinda guy (lick)

oh ok, well that's a little better, cept that is a rear wheel trend that for some reason FWD guys decided to pick up. Still way better than what I thought you were rockin, sorry bout that.

Yesterday i started reassembling the car. got the rear suspension back on and installed a megan racing rear strut tower support. But I did find that i broke two more bolts off my rear sway bracket, fukin a, that's five this year! maybe set too tight, i don't know. Ineed to get the AXR brackets and be done with it. today I'll try getting the axle back in, giving me some problems, front suspension back on, tranny fluid in, possibly remove front bumper and start mounting the fmic and measuring pipe route.

mine "might" be up for grabs soon, I'll have to remember you're possibly interested.

Nice piece of equipment. How do you like it so far? Initial impressions? True what they say about increased power?

second this...what's up?

it is definitely an amazing piece of equipment. everything included is a high quality part. even the wires running to the knock sensor come with a heavy duty shield to protect against the heat of the engine/components. the install was not hard either. the directions are clear and easy to follow. once you get everything wired in, you just drive around and adjust the sensitivity. the unit itself does not increase power. one way you can use the unit to increase power is if you have a form of engine management (that can advance timing). You can advance your ignition timing as far as you want until you see the j and s light up and pull timing. Basically a wideband is to a/f tuning as the jands is to ignition timing tuning (plus the j and s will save your engine if you screw up!) i go to school in san antonio and i live in houston. i installed the unit over labor day and since my car is leaking ******* water, i couldnt bring the car up to school. so i havnt had a good deal of time to mess with the settings and advance timing through my ems.

overall, i am extremely pleased with the unit!

Finally got my car back on Friday from the collision shop. Car is 100% fixed and looking nearly brand new. I should have had them just paint the side skirts to get it over with, since they touched every panel of the car except for the roof, skirts, and front passenger door.

mspHtown - thanks for the review. I might have to pick one of those puppies up if and when I ever reserect the banana. There about 400-500 bucks right?

no problem! they are 530 dollars and i bought the knock gauge through steve so that was in teh neighborhood of another 40 dollars i believe.

steve made a post recently saying that John has only a few chips left for the protege. so you may want to look into it soon!

installed the Apex'i R1 3" catless this past weekend with new Corksport exhaust hangars.
First impressions: It's actually quieter than the vibrant i had before when normally driving, and from the cabin it's only slightly louder at wot although i have been told by others it's definitely louder. No real increase in boost, maybe like .5psi (im controlled by the electronic unichip bc, so maybe that helps). The car is actually noticeably faster especially up top which i did not expect a single hi-flow cat to make such a difference. The angled tip looks hawt as fawk and i love it, though the canister is way too huge in my opinion. It still looks great though and im lovin it, it has such a sexy sound to it -- just MEAN! no complaints so far except a mis-matched bolt/nut assembly, big tip, and a lovely smell when i come to a stop :)

ahem...youre welcome

anyways, todaaay i drove my msp to work and back, thats it. i didnt curse at it like alot of others have been lately it seems, but i did yell a few things when my cooler turned over in the backseat on a sharp turn.

ahh, i hate that s***. i destroyed a c pillar trying not to get cut off after a turn where the lane ends right after it. i had a large heavy tube TV straped in behind the passenger seat, took a right hander without braking and just hear thumpda thump SMASH, exploded on impact, TV was fine though. Lucky it didn't nail the window.
