What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

so... that stupid headlight went out for good. must have just been a bad bulb. was in a pinch and stopped at a cheap ass autozone. not sure what brand it was, but i didnt know it. went out and got a sylvania bulb. so much better. we will see how long that lasts. is it bad when you have 4 burnt out bulbs in your cabinet?
 
Got my 5 detailed. (yeah, i paid someone to do it... wanted it clayed and steam cleaned on the inside... dont have the time or all the equipment)

Then, put in the winter floor mats (after cleaning them too) and installed the second car seat. (the reason i dont have any time)

Now i just have to swap on the winter wheels.

The mud flaps - temporary (installed back in 2006).
The antenna - replaced it with a shorter one for winter. Original will hit the garrage door in winter time.

Winter tires: -- hankook ipike (in its 6th winter)

I just used a polarizing film for the inverted effect.

For the Premacy logo, I just pulled out the stupid green film in the back of the LCD screen, then replaced it with a translucent blue one. It was too thin (folder divider from target), so I just used a piece of paper behind it to help it spread the light evenly behind it, as well as make it a bit stiffer. But I printed out the "premacy" logo from my computer onto the paper before I started cutting the paper for the film.

I used the old green film as a template. Pretty simple mod, took me a good 3 hours with running around to the store back and forth.

I'll be tearing apart the dash board to get rid of all the green light soon enough. Waiting for a few more parts that I ordered from Japan.

Pretty cool! I want to rid of the green too but don't think I'll ever actually have the time to do it. I came across a German Mazda5 forum where an owner did the whole interior to white LEDs and it was very nicely done.

Couple of questions for you.
-Do you have any pics on how-to remove the dash/trim, especially the dash top cover piece!? Be great to know where the clips are to avoid breaking stuff from discovery. Also wanted to see if there’s any space up there.
-The blue does not seem very fluid and appears to have some splotchy white mix in your pic. Is that b/c of the blue folder -usually not evenly spread?
-Did you happen to put a voltmeter on the bulbs to see if the voltage changes when DIM is on and off?
-Have you tried using translucent cellophane paper overlay directly on top of the green display to change the color (think color pin wheel)? Maxima owners have been using this to change the green to white by simply adding red cellophane on top -lazy but effective way of doing it.

I didn't bother to check the LED voltages from the SMD LEDs because they should not differ so much from changing. Most of these SMD LEDs only cause a voltage drop around 2.2V to 3.3V.

Removal of that info screen should take less than 10 minutes. It's the same steps as removing the stock stereo system, then removing two upper screws right behind the stereo bezel. After that, the whole upper panel just pops up. LOTS of room under there if you don't have a GPS screen.

It's spotty because I used a piece a paper as a medium to evenly distribute the white light behind the info screen, instead of using a plastic filter. I'm planning to head to tap plastics in my area to get some thin but sturdy white plastic board so I can replace the paper behind it. Then I will most likely print the primacy logo on a piece of transparency. I might add some more things on it because I do not have an Auto A/C system and to the right of the screen is still a bunch of nothing.

Ah ok, didn’t realize it was LED backlit -though it was incandescent bulbs lighting up the display area and that you are trying to convert to LEDs (doh).

Good to know about the extra space up top without GPS screen (I don’t have). Do you think it will fit a center channel speaker or smallish 4 channel amp? There should be an option for a pop-up storage bin…

So the whole display piece now only shows the clock for you!? I’m sure your HU has a clock, why not just get rid of it altogether and fill it with something else (scrangauge or some other gadget you can find)?

Yea, Pretty much the entire dash board of the mazda5 is all LEDs. The only thing that I could think of that still uses a filament type bulb, are the map lights, cargo lights, etc.

It will definitely fit a center channel speaker. It's been done, on the Japanese blog site that I regularly visit at least. Don't know if it will fit a mini 4-channel Amp though, but who knows.

Yea, it just shows the clock for me. A scan gauge would be nice if it was possible to integrate it into the info screen, but I don't see that possible with my limited electronic skills in terms of CANBUS and communications. Im sure someone who is much more knowledgeable about CANBUS communication would be able to pull it off. My head unit isn't really a head unit. It's just a 7-inch touch screen attached through HDMI to my carputer running on an Atom 525 with NVIDIA ION2 graphics.

Used some Meguiar's Gold Class leather cleaner on the seats & steering wheel. The interior is black, and I don't want the seats to get all faded, cracked and nasty looking in a few years. First time I used it since getting the 5 a year ago so I'll probably do it once a year or so
 
Installed my Clarion CX501. I can finally stream my music, calls, netflix, what ever thru my car. The reason I got this unit is because I plan on getting a cheap tablet with bluetooth so I can have a mobile entertainment system for my daughter. No wires to run anywhere, just stream and go!

The silver color doesn't match the silver by the shift lever, might have to do something about that....later.

No, I could of bought the metra universal controller, but I rarely listen to just radio. I really use more my phone to control my music, amazon cloud, Pandora & BBC player. It would make little sense for me.
