What Have You Done To Your House Today?

Good stuff dude. Looks nice. I love the "coffee" table.

Thanks Sanman.

Ummm...that coffee table matches the sectional/walls/carpet perfectly. You can't beat coral! And as for the crazy beetle, my Aunt brought that back from Africa iirc. Between her & my uncle, they go often as he does alot of music business there....oh yeah, it's actually an ashtray. The wings pop up...lol.

Had the home inspection yesterday and it went great. Got some pictures of the screened-in porch and could use some ideas for it. The wood is still natural and I can't decide whether I should stain it darker or paint it. Any ideas you guys could give would be appreciated. Right now we're going to be putting a small table outside for eating in the summertime, a bar at some point right under the small window picture below (which sits right over the sink in the kitchen) and also the poker table will be coming outside in the summer as well.

You guys can call me crazy but this is what i would do with the space. All the wood blends in to one another. You have some white already in terms of trim, ceiling it looks like. Even fan. Paint the rest of that trim white in that room. Also I never like the look of the exterior plywood when it butts up into one another. Never liked that crease it left. You can maybe nail a 1x.. 6 maybe, paint it white, see what it looks like. Or even photoshop to give you an idea. And unlike my boy Phil, i like that color wood to begin with.

personally i think it's too much wood.
here is what i would do.

- paint the wood siding a nice creamy off white. the wood grain will still show through slightly. Or you could do a white wash on it, which looks really nice. if you white wash the wood grain showes through a lot more.
- paint the trim a solid white
- ceiling leave as is.
- replace the ceiling fan with something other than white. try to match the wood floor witht blades. The body of the fan would look nice is a polished chrome or dark bronze color.
- wood floors leave as is. a nice area rug w/ some color would a nice addition.

the more i think about it the more i get excited about the white wash on the walls. i will look for a picture of a finished picture.

Hi guys
Let's join in!
This is my house (or should I say project):
<a href="http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/?action=view&current=1_house.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/1_house.jpg" border="0" alt="My House"></a>
Living room is almost finished:
<a href="http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/?action=view&current=2_living_room.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/2_living_room.jpg" border="0" alt="Living room"></a>
But since I yesterday moved all the stuff stored in my soon-to-be bedroom, all I can say about it is: What a total mess! *sigh*
<a href="http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/?action=view&current=3_mess.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/3_mess.jpg" border="0" alt="Total Mess"></a>
I guess that's what happens when you need the space to start attacking the room with a crowbar:
<a href="http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/?action=view&current=4_bedroom_start.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/4_bedroom_start.jpg" border="0" alt="bedroom demolishing"></a>
I also got time to paint 2 windows,
<a href="http://s299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/?action=view&current=5_windows.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm303/isbre/5_windows.jpg" border="0" alt="Painted windows"></a>

Let me know what you think, and I'll post up more picture of my bedroom taken to pieces when I get some spare time and a better saw to get around the pipes.

What color is the exterior of the house? What about the Kitchen?

Personally, I would go with:
-Dark semi-transparent stain for the floor.
-Medium brown solid stain for the walls
-Beige trim at the floor, door, window, and the strip that separates that panel at the top.
-Paint the ceiling that same color as the trim
-Replace the ceiling fan with a fan that is brushed nickel and has dark blades.

This way, when you get the other pieces for your game/bar area, you will have a rustic and comfortable feel. You will need to add color to break the browns and beige but the accents can give you that. Maybe some colorful artwork or other framed pictures will help with the color situation. Burnt orange, cranberry, and slate green would look good. Don't be scared to go dark with that many windows.

If the wood paneling is not sealed be prepared for it to suck up the stain.

is it wood paneling or real wood?

Real wood.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys. Gonna run it by the wife, she's really excited about working on this room. I do not like painting, so this is gonna be her project mostly.

I like it! Love the location too!

isbre - cool house! what are you going to put on the walls where you're pulling the drywall off?

Not the best view, but apart from that I love it, and with only 10-15minutes to the city it's more central then you might think! Looking forward to moving back in when everything is finished.

My plan is to isolate the wall and then plaster it and paint it like the living room - that is, if you don't have any other excellent suggestion I can consider.

Yesterday, our awesome electrician neighbor finished wiring up the back room of the basement, and the Master bedroom got it's first coat of wall color, as did the family room. The rec room in the basement finally has all of it's walls, the holes in the ceiling (from re-wiring) are patched, and one coat of primer was put on the walls yesterday. We also cleaned out a bunch of the debris that has filled the room.

Today, we'll prime the rec room ceiling, lay a second coat of primer on the rec room walls, frame up and hopefully insulate and drywall the back room of the basement, and get as many more rooms painted as possible.

Carpet comes on Monday, movers on Wednesday. We're almost there! :D
