My old specV was rates 175hp 180lbft and I lost to LOTS of cars with less tq and more HP (in higher rpms), mostly hondas.
My friend who now owns the Spec raced me in the MSP when I was stock and he had an intake exhaust and pulley. We were dead even and I would pull 1/4 of a car at high speeds.
Granted i am a slightly better driver, but off a roll it doesnt matter that much.

I've had this argument many times with people and dont really feel like explaining it. In reality is much more complicated than just peak tq and hp figures but read this:

No way this guy owns a Mazdaspeed Protege, if he was so mad abotu it being slow he would stop complaining and love it for other things ie. handling. Also look at his name, MazdaSLOW? Sounds real enthusiastic about his car.

About the whole torque and hp issue. Torque is work and hp is power. You want both. Torque turns the wheel and gets the wheel to turn, so the more torque u got, the easier it is for the transmission to turn the wheels and that's why high torque on a fwd usually means wheelspin, cuz of traction issue inherent in fwd setup.
Power or hp in english unit is good for acceleration, only when you got traction, cuz power is basically if you look at the units, force x velocity. So higher power means faster delivery of work to turn the wheel which means increase in velocity or acceleration.
I think each car has an optimum torque for its weight and its traction, beyond that the wheel would only spin and the torque avaliable is wasted. However HP is always good, but both are related, to get more HP you have to increase rev or increase torque. For race car like F1, the teams chose the former cuz the car is so light. F1 cars rev up to like 18k rpm. But there's not much torque downlow much like S2000. Hope this clears up the issue with torque and HP. They are interrelated.
Now back to this thread, I feel this guy just wanna talk up smack about how bad he hate MSP. Well i think this guy doesn't drive MSP the way it was design. He got that pony car attitude of go fast yet gentle around the corner. All i gotta say is, only in America is the road that straight and straight for a long time. In Asia, you'll be lucky if you can get a straight for 100km no not even 70 km.

I think this guy got his ass handed to him by a MSP in his rice a roni Civic and now he's upset....
in all honesty, the MSP is great but it's no where near invincible... you have to watch out for those 'sleeper' H&A's out there. i'm not talking about ricer guys with civics and such, i'm talking about the guys that are running a stock looking civic hatch with a beefed up motor swap that actually know what the hell they're doing. i have a friend that ran consistent 12's with his ALL MOTOR civic hatch on street tires. we also have a modded ITR that purely kills wrx's and the like at our road race open track day. combine 200 some odd HP in a light chassis and you get great results regardless of the badge. sometimes you have to put the pride aside and face some facts.
