Always used Mobil One or Castrol Edge on my other cars. For my wifes X3 tried Liqui Moly and honestly cant tell s*** lolWhatever top brand synthetic 5W-30 Walmart has on sale. Mazda oil filters. Castrol Edge seems to make the engine a bit quieter, but that alone is not a sign of a superior oil. Mobil 1 is another favorite. No extended range or high mileage oils.
Looks like your oil only has the API SN ? Thats a pre 2011 standard. Then they came out with SN+. Now SP is the latest and greatest. I actually got a jug of castrol about six months ago that was still on the SN+ Spec. I still used it.The oil change place near me uses Boss Lubricants. I'll run anything from 5w30-10w40 in my 2.5, depending on weather conditions.
My favourite is renewable lube: Bio-SynXtra Passenger Car Motor Oil
It's the longest lasting out of any oil I have ever used.
Mine has 291,000KM on it, so I change the oil filter halfway through my oil interval, at around 3000km.
Also to note, if any Canadian owners ever send oil samples for analysis, I've had good luck with Toromont/Cat dealers. Used to send to Blackstone Labs, but CanadaPost always gives a hard time sending, and turnaround is so long. Toromont/Cat turn around is a few days, and they take care of the shipping + much cheaper.
$29 per sample, and they send to lab in Montreal. You don't get the nice personalized blurb like Blackstone, but almost half the cost after you factor in shipping/exchange rate, etc. I dropped last sample off on a Tuesday, and had results emailed by Friday. Here's a screenshot of my results:Good to know! I have a CAT shop near my office, maybe I'll look into them for future UoAs.
Ya, as a Canadian owner who drives so little that I only have 35,000 kms (21,000 miles) after 5 and a half years, that 6 month oil change interval ain't happening. The last six months I've probably only driven 1,500 Kms, if that. I change my oil once a year now, in the spring, and that's it. Even then, the oil that comes out is as clear as day. Besides, I'm out of warranty now after 5 years.Canadian Owner here; we are required to follow severe schedule for warranty (8000km/6mo), so good filter and cheapest, highest rated oil I could find.
