ok, i just had some stuff replaced on my car yesturday(at the dealer) and i was talking to the mechanic about my turbo. he said he talked to the head of service and he told him that i should have the kit down there(at mazda), the mechanic then reffered me to this new mechanic who knows alot about turbos and he races turbo miatas and stuff. so im thinking about having it done there. i was orignally going to have it done at a garage but i know the mechanic there and he knows turbos. what do u guys think or suggest i do.
thanks
mike

Only do it if there are reasonable with the labor charge and make then sign a warrenty for there work!

what do u mean "sign a warrenty". if they break anything or something. cause i know if my engine blew or something(which i know it wouldn) they wouldnt warrenty it

if you have the right tools, it shouldnt take you more than a couple hours to pull your exhaust manifold, put on the turbo manifold, bolt the turbo on. running the ic piping may take a bit longer because you'll have to pull the front bumper.

take the time to learn about your car if you're going to slap a turbo on it...that way if theres problems you can diagnose them.

if anything, don't go to a dealer to get it done...

Dude, I live in NJ.
You, me, a garage, and a wrench.
let's get it on.

What needs to be welded on a SPOOL kit, i thought it was just the downpipe to the exhaust b/c it doesnt line up with the stock exhaust. Is there more welding needed?? I say check compare the two prices for the install, if its within reason get it done at the dealer. I'm gonna put mine on myself. I've been reading my Maxium boost alot tryin to learn everything. I dont see how the install could be that tough, just lots of patients and if necesary give Terry a call. Did you get your kit yet?? i would love to come check it out once you get it installed i live in PA so it cant be to far. Im ordering my clutch and flywheel this weekend. probally gonna go with clutchmaster STAGEIII thats what rafi recomend for the turbo route. What clutch master do you have?Either way you should be safe since it is a complete kit. I personally would rather a mazda mechanic work on my car. but they will probally kill you with labor cost, and if you need something fixed it could get costly. Good luck either way:D

Hehe, I'm down.

Laza-the install will kill your wallet. Do the install yourself, and then take the $ you would have spent on labor, and spend it on a NICE exhaust system (which you'll need anyway).

Do you have acess to a garage? If so, we can all have a meet to install the kit with you. Will work for pizza.

haha well i already have an exhaust and i already planned ahead and i have the money for install. also i wouldnt have time to do it myself. and i dont know of a garage that would let me use their lift. and yes u need to weld the egr. not sure what that is but i know u have to, i have the manual for the kit.

you dont need a lift to install a turbo.

having a EGT bung welded on shouldnt cost more than 40 bucks.
shouldn't that be on the downpipe already?

do you have to tap anything for the oil feed line on the turbo? 5 bucks for the tap, few bucks for a drill.

seriously...there are people that want to help you. set aside a day for this, you WILL get it done. and you'll feel better about yourself cause you did it yourself. the money you save can be used towards the new tires you'll need from the intoxicating amount of boost.

when I install the kit I'm just going to run off the downpipe, and drive to a local muffler shop, just have em then weld on the piping, I'll get to run around for a little bit running off the downpipe, whee, it isn't so bad, don't let the welding part daunt you, 10$, meineke, 10 minutes. Done.

well u have to tap into the ecu to install the sensor so u wont have ne fuel problems. i have no clue how to do that haha. im not that much of a car mechanic. i can do easy things such as i installed my intake, hids, s*** like that. no way i am comfortable doing my own kit.

LaZaBLuEMp3 since your getting offers from local guys on this forum I would highly recommend doing it in your, or your friends garage. I had to attempt this all by myself. My knowledge on turbos and turbo installation was Zero when I started off. Ask spoolin he knows....I made his life miserable with the amount of phone calls (on odd hours):D about every little thing...and this is even before I installed. But all kidding aside, once I took the stock manifold and the exhaust out...everything seemed so much easier to do. Infact it took less then two hours to get the high flow manifold and turbo with the oil lines(well hmmm.....the oil sensor is a little tricky but once you figure out a way to tighten it....it is easy) Then the rest is just welding the down pipe to ur exhaust system(which by the way excellent choice...titanium) You can get that done at a local muffler shop. Tapping into the ecu is cake once you have pulled it out and get a good look at the wires, I mean it is just a match and tap thing. Go to home Depot they have those red clamp like thingys that bite into the wire. Trust me once you hook it all up and start the car....oh man.....I still remember the feeling even now when I think about it...It was better then..(hump). Anyhow....in the end it is your choice...so choose wisely;)

Yo Deepcover6, where in DC are you? I have never seen a turbo MP3 floating around in my area (trust me, if I did, I would have chased it:D). I live like 5mins outside of D.C. and travel through DC often. Do you have a yellow MP3?

Mike

I think i have an answer to your problem. I don't know if i told you about my friend with the 12 sec turbo omni but if you need some one to put it on for he would be the man. he knows alot about turbos and how to install them and s***. he told me that he would install it @ 10 an hour for me. if you want i can find out how much he would charge you to do it. Oh yeah this guy is a weding freak too. he made his own turbo exhuast manifold.
so let me know.
