Hey everyone. I'm thinking of purchasing a Mazda CX-5 so I decided to register instead of lurking.Anyhow, I'm looking to purchase a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with Technology Package. I was offered the below deal after some negotiating:
VEHICLE: $28,900.00
TAX: $1,806.25
DOC FEE: $150.00
LICENSE FEE: $180.10
PRE-TOTAL: $31,036.35
LOYALTY REBATE: -$500.00
GRAND TOTAL: $30,506.25
I'm going to ask for the break down on the license fee and ask them to halve the document fee (never hurts to try). So, this looks to be fairly decent, right?
In most counties, most of the license fee is legit (inspections, county tax, business tax, temp tag, etc.). Make sure you apply the loyalty rebate before you calculate taxes though.
If you check out the last 5-10 pages or so, you'll see that most of the good deals fall within the range that you got.
When you compare deals comparing one without a trade would give the best idea. But either way, it's hard to compare deals from different places, times, etc. You don't get good deals on negotiation skills alone. You need also need to be in the right place at the right time. That being said, you got a good offer, even if they don't take another cent off. Can you get better? Sure there is always someone out there who will get a better deal...just like there is always someone who makes more money, but if the deal makes you happy...just be re-assured that it's a pretty good deal.
I do want to give forum readers a hint though. When you check out edmunds or truecar for the invoice price, you'll see that the invoice on the CX-5 is much closer to the MSRP than most of the competition. It might seem that the mark-up on the CX-5 is lower than it actually is. But it's not the case, the invoice on the CX-5 is a bit inflated compared to the competition. Dealers know you look at the invoice

Use the forums for help but at the end of the day, nothing is cold, hard, and fast when it comes to price except for one thing: Only accept a price that you're happy with. Then it won't matter what someone else got and you don't need validation.
Then post your info and help other people out. Another poster bought around the same time as I did and we live in the same city. It was helpful.
