What can you tell me about this Mazda?

If I had a Mazda....
Hey fellas, new guy here. Here's the deal:

There's a car parked next to a burnt down house that's been there for literally as long as I can remember. Well today I decided to stop and look at that car. I found out that it is a Mazda, so I decided, hey, since I'm a forum junkie, I'll go to a Mazda forum and ask those dudes about it.

I know nothing at all about Mazdas, by the way. This one is an RX7 which I've heard of before. It says "Turbo II" across the side, which means nothing to me, since I dunno about Mazdas. I'm hoping to find out the owner of this car and see if they will...oh I dunno...give it to me since it hasn't been driven in probaby 15 years or more. I bet that hoss gets real good gas mileage, being a 5-speed Mazda. The interior looks awesome. Doors were locked though, so couldn't get in.

Enough with the rambling, are these cars cool? :)

Here's what I drive, by the way:

It would probably (easily) take a few hundred bucks to get everything running, but since my truck gets about 15 mpg it would pay for itself in no time!

it wont get good gas mileage but i want it!!! its an FC3S rear wheel drive rotory. i dont know much about them but i know i want one.

Thanks for the replies guys!

And holy crap!! 11-13 mpg? Why on earth does it get such bad gas mileage? (omg)

A forum junkie, eh? Are you on therangerstation.com? I was on there for a year or so back in 2003 when I had a 94 Mazda B4000.

Yeah that's a 2nd generation RX7 turbo, there's actually a couple people on here with them. I don't know a heck of a lot about the 2nd generation RX7, but if you don't know anything about them you'll want to read up on the rotary engine that they have. Here's a link with some information http://auto.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine.htm

Yep, sure am. I'm on therangerstation.com, ranger-forums.com, rangerpowersports.com, offroadrangers.com....I could go on!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I thought it was a pretty sweet looking car. Even if it does get bad mpg, I still think it'd be pretty cool to have. Getting it to run will be another story LOL.

It's going to need a total engine rebuild, but damn it has a nice interior.

That being said, look for 15mpg on 93 octaine, but you'll have a lot of smiles per gallon.

I know I would.

where is the car located at i know a few ppl who would be interested if its close enough

Probably going to have to get a tow truck to get it to your p[lace if he give it to you, cause those look like tow lines sitting on the front seat meaning it wasnt running when they put it there.

It does look to be in good to decent condition as far as interior goes, may wanna check the usual spots under the car and around for rust but it also seems like the kinda car someone would pickup as a prject car in hopes of having it running in a yr.

i hear those need A LOT of tlc and maintance and the engine floods quite easily, ut awesome car, i'm a fan of those and the n/a rx-7

i remember flooding the s*** out of my rx7 all the time. and having to have my neighbor push my car with his so i can pop the clutch. oh good times.

wouldnt that mess up the engine, forcing the fuel out like that? (omg)

Starting a rotary is bad for the engine.

Looking at a rotary is just as bad.

Thinking about a rotary? KABOOM.

Running a rotary at redline for 20 min? Oh, that's ok.

The RX-7 is a Rotary engine, different from anything else on the road. They are very cool engines, very small, fairly powerfull and very high-revving. They don't get good gas milage, and the one you are looking at is a Turbo model, so it gets even worse gas milage, but they are really fun cars.
That's a second generation RX-7, made in the '86-'91 model years. Looking at your pictures, that's the earlier style second gen., which was '86-'87 or '88, I can't remember. That interior looks to be in unbelievable shape for an RX of those years. If you can get the owner to let you have it cheap, you could make good money parting it out!

Rotarys don't sit well. If it's been sitting there "as long as you remember" it will need the motor replaced or rebuilt. My understanding is that the apex seals will rust to the rotor housing. If that sentence made no sense to you, check out howstuffworks.com. They have nice moving diagrams of how the rotary functions. Very cool stuff.

My freind just sold one of those because the rotors cracked on him or something like that. Very cool cars, but prolly a big headache as well. Shoot, i'd rock one if i had the time and money.
