What bpv to get?

Look on youtube for videos of the forge, personally from everything I've read and heard and seen, HKS SSQ is the best way to go. But it's preference as well.
 
i used to have the ebay knockoff greddy type-s. $32 shipped, held boost excellently, and was pretty quiet in recirc. Loved that thing. This is a thread I made a long time ago with videos of how it sounded in both VTA and recirc. If you want quiet qith a tiny bit of whoosh and great boost holding power I'd go for it:

i used that valve for a long time, it held perfect, never leaked, worked great, But unlike your initial post, I wanted MUCH LOUDER, so I went with the real greddy type-s for loudness and now I am running the hks in VTA. But loudness isn't what you want.
 
im leaning towards forge.... but they all have BOV on youtube... i dont really want to hear much noise... minimal as possible for a bpv.... not the usual loud forge bov noise... subtle sound is ok...
 
I'll say this much:

Hearing the Forge on YouTube sounds so chinsy and cheap. Having it in person is TOTALLY different. It sounds fantastic and I seriously like it a lot!! I was blown away when I first got it installed. I didn't want to stop driving!

At full boost, it's loud. But it's crack-cocaine addictive. You won't want to stop boosting.

Let's you know for a fact what your car is doing atleast. Intead of the super stealth stock bpv, god forbid its louder than a whisper.

I just recently installed the Forge BPV (my first mod- super easy!) and it was not loud at all- but that was with the stock intake. I could hear the 'ka-ching' noise only faintly after letting off during high boost.

Then I installed the Cobb SF intake(second mod.. now I'm addicted)... and eliminating the muffling caused by the restrictive stock airbox allowed the Forge BPV piston action to be heard MUCH more clearly. With the Cobb intake, the 'ka-ching' is quite loud... too much so for my personal taste. It does kind of sound like your car is broken, if you didn't know it was the BPV venting.

At any rate I am going to return (hopefully) or sell the Forge and look for a quieter solution like the Turbosmart I've been hearing about. The Forge did seem to perform better than the stock BPV.

In what way did it "seem" to perform better. Was it measurable and verifiable, or was it placebo effect: I wanted it, I bought it, I installed it, so therefore it must perform better?

I want one that is (1) pure recirc; (2) very solidly constructed; (3) as close to stock appearance as possible; (4) holds boost; (5) does not require readjustment and (6) IS SILENT.

When the new TS recirc is out on the market long enough for users to answer these six questions, and if all answers are "yes" then I'll open my wallet.

Keep in mind though, thats with a higher octane gasoline. So the car is advancing the timing which is also helping with that horsepower gain. I would love to see the difference with normal 91 octane. I still bet there is a hp difference with the aftermarket bov on it though
 
lol yeah I know. I read that alot but I don't think I want to pay for a dyno run just to see what my car can do with an aftermarket bov with out octane boost either. Any one out there wanna experiment and bring in some numbers, be my guest. I'm broke lol

You know I'm actually thinking about doing this since I just got my MS3 and it's stock. My buddy is a tuner and tuned my cobra and is AMAZING...apart from that he obviously has a dyno and I'm gonna ask him if I can run some numbers with it and I might just get back to you guys with that.

What year Cobra? I like the Terminator.

What they needed to do in that test after they added octane booster is:
  1. Install a new, replacement stock BPV that does not leak, and make a run and show boost along with HP and TQ
  2. Install their BPV, make a run, and show boost along with HP and TQ

I'd also like to see some proof the stocker was leaking by measuring flow coming out the recirc fitting if possible.

The octane booster was one thing, but the supposedly leaking stock valve has me wondering.

Those final numbers with their valve seemed pretty close to typical stock to me and I don't see any definition of what is an "efficient" BPV vs one that is inefficient as they were touting. It's a valve and there's no efficiency in the valve itself. It just opens and closes when it's supposed to. It might help the motor more efficiently make HP by sealing better than the leaking stocker, but any quality BPV should do that.

Well than you're in luck because mine's an 03 black convertible (terminator obviously haha). I made 587rwhp/568rwtq on a veryyy conservative tune. The car is an absolute monster. So fast it's ridiculous. Maybe if some people wanna see it I'll post up some pics some time haha.

Back on this subject I agree, there needs to be some flow testing done as well to that the boost loss was actually the BPV. I'll see what I can do with this as well. When it comes down to it, the better the valve stays shut and sealed the more efficient the turbo is obviously. So we'll see how efficient these stock BPV's truly are
