I took delivery of my my '08 CX-9 GT AWD - Loaded on Oct 31 '07 (Halloween).

I've been in it ever since. Finding reasons to drive it and show it off to everyone hasn't been a problem and hasn't slowed down at all. I LOVE it!

Stupid question: No biggie, just curious

What are the two square 2 x 2" cut-outs in the front and rear bumbers used for? They look like they are square caps or meant to be removed for some purpose? Because I purchased mine with everything (Nav, Towing, DVD, Roof Rack, etc.) but the homelink, I'm curious what these are for?

Are they for lighting? Reflectors?

TIA

For towing I am sure.
Tow hook for tying it down on a flatbed or trailer I am sure.
Look in your manual about it...I bet its there under towing..Or transport

Those caps cover where the eyebolt that is in the toolkit can be inserted to allow the car to be pulled or secured. They have been on German cars for years. I don't know if those locations are used when the cars are on the ship or not.

In the menu, Mazda warns you that these are NOT for towing.
These are for "tie-down" during transportation.
... according to Mazda
Of course, you can do whatever with them. It is your vehicle.

Read it again mate!

Quote: "Don't use the tiedown hooks UNDER the front and rear for towing"
because they are designed for tying down in transport only.

INSTEAD

Remove the square caps, and screw in the supplied TOWING EYELETS.

So they ARE for towing only.

Or securing...Becuse lord knows..If you can tow with them(the Add on tow hooks)..you sure as hell can secure with them as well.

The ones underneath are securing points ONLY
is a better statement here.

If one wants to get technical, you could tow with the hooks underneath too, but the bumpers would look a bit ordinary when your finished.

The original question was asking about the square caps in the front and rear bars.

The answer is to screw in the supplied TOWING EYELETS

Need we say more?.........I think not(rofl)
