What are everyone's thoughts on the upcoming MazdaSpeed 6? I think, I like it!

why are they using a 4cyl in the mazdaspeed 6? Why not just turbo the v6?
Like has been mentioned already, the 3.0 is North America only, 2.3-liter is the world motor.

Translates nicely over to the Mazda3.

Plus, the V-6 would make it very difficult to bring out a Mazdaspeed RX-8 with an insurance friendly horsepower figure.

The bright side of using the 2.3-liter is, it shows the motor is strong as hell and takes very nicely to forced induction.

Very nice attempt by Mazda, but the Evo MR owns it in every regard.
Well, any "racer" built for the street will...

But the Mazdaspeed6 isn't in the same class...Simply because it is all-wheel drive and turbo doesn't mean its out to go up against the Subaru and the Mitsu.

These are exactly the two manufacturers Mazda was attempting to go up against!

I'm not sure if Mazda is saying this, or if the press is. To me, a Mazdaspeed 3 would be the car that goes up against the EVO/STI.

This car is more of a Subaru Legacy, Acura TL, Even a 3 series BMW to a degree. This is a much larger and heavier car then a STI/EVO, and it's got a lot of luxery type items in it. Leather, handsfree entry system ( think lexus ), Nav unit ( although I got my doubts that'll be in the CAnadian version )and so on.

Your right, the EVO will hand the 6 it's ass everytime, but it's just not the same type of car imho.

The MS 6 (MPS 6, 'till it's released) is much closer to the Legacy GT or the (RIP) Galant VR-4 style of car; Mid-Sized Performance/Luxury, rather than straight out performance, as is the Evo MR, or any Evo for that matter. Just remember what class of car you're looking at. =) The MS 3 would be more likely to receive a makeover that pushed it toward the WRX/WRX STi/Evo crowd, since it's the compact car of thier lineup, as apropo.

Edit: And Newf is a jerk, 'cause he beat me to the post. ;)

I agree...

every single article I have seen so far has been somewhat of a copy of the original press release, just re-worded.

Time will tell I guess. I can't wait until we see the final thing tested by someone

Given the choice between the 3 makers,,,,,, Mazda, Subaru, and Mitsu; I would take Mazda everytime. I just don't trust the quality of the other 2.

My buddy with the WRX wants to get rid of it. He isn't too pleased with the quality, at all. He bought a week after I bought mine. And; his buddy totalled his STi in a crash. Now; he's driving a clunker. Boy racers! Ha! At least; he wasn't hurt.

You can look at the interior (for example), and see the superior quailty of the MazdaSpeed 6 over the contenders. Again; 270hp would be fine with me.(rockon)

My WRX is holding up better than my Protege, as far as quality; No rattles with the WRX yet, but the Protege has it's share. (More than it's share, thanks to the stiff engine mounts!)

02 vs 04...give the wrx some time

Car looks good, but I don't care for the engine layout. TMIC with no hood scoop = why bother?

Black on black already ordered. It will be the first of 8 here in Ottawa. Supposed to arrive middle of March (production start in February, 6 week travel time from Japan), although my dealer said that the Mazda is really trying to speed up production so that they might arrive in February instead. My wife will inherit the MSP then. Can hardly wait.

Will have to drop it right off the bat, and I'm gonna shop around for some rims because I'm not a big fan of the ones on the US site. Other than that though, the rest of the mods will all be under the hood. I like understated. Much better sleeper effect. Over 300 hp would be great, but I agree that it is right in the ballpark of the cars it is aimed at: Acura TL ~270 hp, Subaru Legacy 250 hp. The 3 is more in the class of the Evo and STi. We'll have to see what the MS3 is like if Mazda is serious about going against Mitsu and Subaru.

The first mod I would suggest would be ON the hood; Cut a small louvre in front of the TMIC, and have the hood pushed out a little bit to create a nice, subtle hoodscoop, then open up the weather stripping on the back a little; That'll give you some flowthrough, so that IC can breath better. =)

I would trust the Subaru before the Mazda in the case of quality. Suabru has been AWD 4cyl turbo for years and I'm not sure but this may be Mazda's first or at least first U.S. model. I'm guessing that the MS6 will see several revisions after the the '05 model debuts. And those MS6 wheels.... ....my eyes!!!
