what about this turbo set-up??

i was thinking about a turbo setup everyone has overlooked but could be very effective and less of hassle. Spoolins stage 1 non-intercooled setup is very impressive for the price. I believe that that kit a 5psi will and should dyno more than the new Mazdaspeed Protege.

My idea is take that same kit and add on an inline air to water intercooler instead of front mount intercooler. PWR makes inline air to water intercoolers. So basically if you have spoolins non intercooled kit or kit of that type you would just insert the inline air to water intercooler where the piping that goes from turbo to intake manifold. That way no cutting of front bumper and less piping to worry about. It would be a true sleeper.

If anyone has any information on the efficiency of air to water intercoolers please let me know as this is setup im am going with. Not using spoolins kit but custom kit with pretty much same parts just not his.

You forget that with an air/water intercooler, you need a separate radiator to support it. Much more hassle.

Liquid intercoolers will heat soak as well. But since you'd just be running the water to another tank, it wouldn't be cooling down, so on a long enough drive, you wouldn't get any cooling at all.

Running low boost and low cfm, you should be able to get away with using a smic off another car, this would save a lot of money, and reduce lag

That's what I did. I'm using a starion fmic and had some custom pipe done all for $350! It's a good alternative to getting a brand new fmic. Just remember to shop wisely and make sure that the starion intercooler is in good shape.

Thanks for the info guys but i wont be going turbo and i wont be going all motor, im planning on selling my mp3. It was fun in the twisties but the yellow attracts too many cops and in the past year i got five tickets, a lot of them for real stupid reasons that cops gave that are legit but just hardly ever given to anyone. so now im down and out and to the point of not having a license so the poing of doing anything to my car is useless. so farewell my mp3 brothers, thought i may be leaving the mp3 im not leaving mazda, gonna grab up a 1988 323 gtx with the 1.8 turbo motor and awd tranny. cost is 2000-3000 for a good running one, so i will just play with that. bye all
