First off, I'm a software developer, and I'm VERY proficient with a computer. I do, however, use Internet Explorer as my browser <GASP>(eekdance)...
. Also, running Windows XP Pro.
Anyhow, in the last month or so, occaisionally I'll try to go to a web page (doesn't matter where) and it comes back as "The Page cannot be found" with a reason of a "DNS Error". A refresh will fix it. Sometimes one refresh, sometimes 2 or 3. I've run Ad-Aware, various virus scanners, and heard about a virus QHosts which sounded like it modified DNS settings, but it wasn't found on my machine with Symantec's tool. It happens on my fiancees machine which is on the network, sharing a cable modem. We are behind a D-Link 614+ router. The router logs don't show much, except for occaisional "Ping of death detected" messages, but this doesn't happen when we're experiencing the problem.
Its really just a nuisance, and it pisses me off that I haven't found out what it is yet. Anyone?
EDIT: Maybe its my cable providers DNS servers, I dunno. Are there any free ones I could try out there?
Chris
