Weird clunking from rear

Alright, I haven't done any suspension mods to my P5 at all. I noticed that in the past month or so my P5 seems to have developed an odd clunk in the right rear, or so it sounds. I only notice it when I first get in the car till about 10 minutes or so into my drive. I have a manual and only really hear it when starting out in first and occassionally going around a harder curve. I've been all over the rear of my ride and nothing. Nothing loose, nothing broken, nothing. I do remember hearing a lot about the MSP having the clunk problem, but I thought the general concensus what that was related to the rear sway bar (I think that was it). Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

try doing a search...i know this topic has been discussed before, but i can't remember what conclusions were reached. one suggestion is to check how your jack is mounted...mine came loose and was banging around when i went over bumps and stuff.

I did search and couldn't really come up with anything. I thought jack, but checked it out and it's not sliding around or anything. That and the problem goes away after about 10 minutes, and the jack sliding around would be constantly loose.

I've heard it as well. My guess is that it's something loose inside the bumper, perhaps the styrofoam isn't so well secured???

You might look into this. Mine's a little different because I have a hitch and the Mazdaspeed exhaust so the exhaust is very close to the hitch, so close that when it's cold it'll rattle against it, but when it's warm the exhaust expands lenghtwise and it doesn't hit, except when I hit a bump or something and I'll get a little clunk. So I'd get under there and check the hangers and make sure nothing's slipped off or moved around, and check clearance around all the pipes. Also keep in mind that the exhaust will move slightly when the engine revs.

Good luck

Yeah, I thought it may have been the exhaust also. I looked and couldn't find a thing that was loose, rubbing, or knocking into something else. The thing that gets me is that it just started about a month ago and it's only really happening during the first 10 minutes of a drive. Arrrrgh.

Hey I know this might sound funny and all, but when i lowered my p5 i had the whole rear-end tore apart and when I put it back together the stupid-ass seat belt that hangs back there was left hanging under the deck cover, allowing it to swing back and forth. Put it on top of my cover and that was it for me. Hope thats all it was.

Maybe your jack came loose. I have a weird clunking noise but I just turn up the radio and that seems to take care of it.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, but it's none of those. It's only happening for the first 10 minutes of a drive and only when I start moving in first. Almost everything that has been suggested would be s*** that would constantly rattle and make noise. I'm going to end up spending some serious time Saturday trying to track it down. I hope (as suggested) that it's not my struts.
