I disagree. With a weighted shifter the shifts are smoother. I have the stock shifter with a MSP shift knob and love it.
Stock is pretty easy to shift already, I say just keep it looking stock unless you actually get a short shifter, then get a weighted knob.
is it worth it to put a weighted shift knob on a stock shifter on the protege 5?
It's def. worth it if your going to get the short shifter anyways, if you love it then do it! I've got a duel bend short shifter with weighted knob for my other car and I'll never go back!!!
is the duel, the name of the shifter, or the the 2 bends in the shift arm? How much did that short shifter run you? I should of never sold my Kartboy SS, and bushings (braindead what the hell was I thinking!
I put my ol' man's shift knob from a mazda 3, (which is fairly heavier) and it seemed to improve the smoothness of shifting. Just something to think about
Thats funny..It really must be in your head then..since the MSP knobs...Are not considered weighted..at all.I disagree. With a weighted shifter the shifts are smoother. I have the stock shifter with a MSP shift knob and love it.
Compared to the plastic knob in the P5, the MSP is far heavier. Weither it is consider weighted or not, who cares...it definately is an improvement over the OEM knob.Thats funny..It really must be in your head then..since the MSP knobs...Are not considered weighted..at all.

Does anyone know where I can pick up an MSP knob, or a mazda 3 knob for a good price? and would anyone have a picture of either of the knobs????
