We have NOT assisted Mazda in any way to identify members

(werd) and even if it did then that would be under the assumption that they even created an account which is not needed to view most any forum on the internet...
im not sure that statement has any legal weight though. Just because someone says it does not make it so, i would be wary of anything you post on the internet.

Well if that's the case then way not make the forum unavailable to view unless you have an account???

Along with this:

"state in the user registration a check box that states that you are not affiliated with mazda usa and no information from the site could be used against someone through the forums"

If these two actions were taken we wouldn't have much to worry about on this forum

I've seen this on other forums where they protect the users. They would state in the user registration a check box that states that you are not affiliated with mazda usa and no information from the site could be used against someone through the forums. Just a thought... i know alot of members are leaving and going to the new forum(providing no link) because of that. it just seems a little bit safer so that we can actually speak our minds and not have to worry about a random catastrophic problem and then pinned for a void warranty just because we say something on the internet. yeah i'm all for watching what you say on the internet but... its the damn internet... lol. cmon now. everyone has a different ego on it. lol :D

You don't need to register or check anything to view the information on any forum. I'm not sure how you would require someone follow your terms of service if they never see it...

because we want to draw in new members. Why sign up for a site if you have no idea what kind of content it has? Check the number of guests looking at this site at any time, many people are lurkers that use this site for info only

Hmmm, I don't give KCUF who logs on & looks for what. I have a 1,000,000 mile warranty & have modded every piece of my car in a haphazard manor in an effort to utilize the lemon law & make MUSA replace the whole damn car so I can start over modding the new one as soon as I get it. There ya go, validate, research, research, research, waste company time, check it, double check it, put me on the watch list. IP freely, watch your step. If I really had a warranty, I still wouldn't worry. oooo which is it? I guess you shouldn't mod your car if you have a warranty. Oh wait, said it wrong, I guess you should post up about your mods if you have a warranty. Oh wait, said it wrong, I guess you shouldn't get a warranty...............whatever. Notice I don't have a sig, oooo what am I hidin? I HAVE NOT & WILL NOT EVER MOD ANY VEHICLE FOR ANY REASON WHETHER OR NOT IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. Oh, BTW, it also isn't OK for someone else to mod your warrantied vehicle just because you aren't willing or able to work on your own car, even the dealer. Only an idiot would expect such protection from the public forum where you made public posts. Expect to be F'd.

If the magusson-moss act is supposed to protect modders, and it does not appear to from what I read, then why would someone agreeing to a forums TOS help?
Teh interwebs>the law?

In alot of situations you have to pay to fix the car THEN get a lawyer which cost money THEN try and go to court which mazda has gotten very good at putting off a bunch of times so who knows how long till you actually get to see a judge. Also in the off chance you lose your in the hole for lawyer fees and the parts and labor for the fixed vehicle. The average person has alot more to lose then mazda usa for taking them to court.

the magnuson moss act isnt to protect modders. Its to protect the aftermarket parts industry. The act basically is in place so that a manufacturer whom offers a warranty on vehicle cant tell you which parts to use on the car. For example, Mazda cant make you use mazda oil filters. If you want to use a K&N, then they cant void your warranty for using the aftermarket item, unless the item is the cause of the failure.

However, people dont seem to understand that putting an intake on or some other bolt on is NOT what the act is covering. An intake is physically changing the OEM intake tract therefore they CAN void your warranty. Same with exhausts, turbos etc.

Another example of how it works is:

Say u want to use a K&N air filter (OEM SIZE), mazda cant void your warranty for using the K&N instead of their part unless the K&N causes the failure.

Thats why the act doesnt hold up in court all the time.

i know people will argue, but if you read the act closely you will see what i mean.

That has absolutely no legal weight whatsoever. Publicly posted information is exactly that -- public.

Why is it so hard for people to use common sense and not post their license plate info or other possibly identifiable information? Just be smart about it. The forums shouldn't have to hold anyone's hands. If you live in a one horse town with one dealership and you're the only MS3 around (that you know of)then it might be a good idea to be a little more discrete.

precisely.

Real easy here, have a warrantied car where you are concerned about having to ever use that warranty for any reason - DON'T DO ANYTHING TO IT THAT COULD VOID YOUR WARRANTY. If you have no warranty or you never expect to or care about utilizing whatever warranty you have then MOD THE HELL OUT OF IT!

LOL. this thread has gone way over board. Like i was just saying. Yeah in one hand the boards are trying to allow more members to join by allowing them to see everything. Hey thats cool with me. Don't get me wrong guys but its also good to keep the members that you already have and allow word of mouth to also do its job. It's not like its hard to just google search "mazdaspeed 3 forums." I just wish that you could speak to people all over the world just like as if you could speak to them in person at a car meet. Would you have to worry about mazda usa reps at a car meet howling over what kind of mods you have and if they could void your warranty?

hey, live the life, mod, get screwed or maybe not? IF you get caught you get caught. But lets try to aim to not get caught and still be able to say hey, my cars awesome with these so and so mods. cause everyone likes mods, cmon who doesn't? hahaha

even if this forum had your little "check here if your not affiliated with MazdaUSA" doesnt stop said person from not checking it....

in the style of Mr. Ron White,

its a PUBLIC forum... to be read by the general PUBLIC... pub...lick.

Actually, there were some manufacturer reps doing just that. Ask around, that's why you see some folks covering their vin plates at meets.

In any case, you can say whatever you want on any forum; just don't be a douche and post your picture, address, phone number, license plate number, etc. If there is no way to identify you, then there is no issue... (deadhorse
