water ingestion with cai

i just installed my injen cai..and my question is..wat it the risk of getting water into the engine...ive asked around people pretty much just said that its only a risk if you go through really high standing water.....im asking u guys for your opinion cuz u all are pretty knowledgeable ..so what do u guys think?

P.S i live in OR and so it reains a lot and is wet BUT there are usually very few flooding areas..just wet roads

You won't have a problem, even through deep puddles. The filter sits fairly high up.

I wouldn't be too worried. Unless your intake is submerged in water (flood) you'll be fine. Some people like to play it safe and buy the AEM bypass valve but that thing is like 50 bucks, but I havent heard of any problems so far with anyone getting water inside their engine.

so it was or was not a horrible experience? did water get into your engine? wat did u do?

anyone else? what are anyone elses thoughts...it seems to me that most people think it isnt a big deal unless u are fording a river....

Do a search, this has been discussed to death.
Not bloody likely to happen unless you drive into a lake and tromp on the gas pedal.
And no, the bypass doesn't work with turbo as funnylittlman stated above.

it sucked. i got all sorts of water in the engine. wouldnt crank. pulled the plugs and cranked it. once it spit the water out i put the plugs back in and cranked it on and off again for almost an hour before it finally started. i had to give it some gas for the first few minutes and let it run for almost and hour before i could drive it without it missing horribly. it still had a small miss in it for a few days then finally went away

your filter is over a foot above the ground. You seriously would have to be floating the car over a river to get it to hydrolock.

The way i look at it, if youre worried about sucking up water through the intake and hydrolocking the car, then youve got bigger issues to worry about...

IE FLOATING AWAY.

you'll be fine, I got the splash gaurd with my injen cai and it has rained like hell up here in the northeast and my car was fine, no problems at all. Just dont go through any deep puddles. The filter part is very well hidden.

www.ptuning.com has this product from Injen. Its one of the first products they have as an accessory for the RD6066 CAI.
