The key information I took away from the speech was the plural he used when he referred to upcoming information on available engine(S)!
I was concerned there would only be one small engine available.

Yes it would, I guess i wasn't shooting high enough. (spin)
If you want to go that route, I vote for a 1/2 size version of the new 16x motor, call it a two rotor 800cc, 8x with electric supercharger, and all wheel drive.(beer)

According to the MazdaUSA site, the engine listed for the North American Spec sheet is a 1.5 gas.
Oh well, maybe there will be a turbocharged Mazdaspeed version in the future.
I still can't wait to drive one, but late summer 2010 seems like a long time away.

Interesting - didn't see that before. 1.5L with 4AT / 5MT

On JDM is also CVT transmission available...
And for the engine... they are loosing in Europe, 'cause car is a little bit expensive, and for same money you can get Fiesta with 120hp, and ofcourse, there are a lot of "little" cars with powerfull engines (Opel Corsa OPC - 192hp, Mitsubishi Colt CZT - 150hp, Renault Clio Sport - 197hp etc etc.....)
