Hey gang, got a tough question for all of you, might be a bit long, so bare with me.
My Gf just purchase a 2008 Mazda 3 GT. She just just hit 5000km, so it's time for her first oil change. Honestly, for something like an oil change, i dont want to go to Mazda and pay $60+ dollars to get it done, when i can do it myself just as well.
My Gf and i both called Mazda and got different responses, so i need something concrete.
When she called Mazda Canada, they told her that if anything happens to the engine and she doesn't get her oil changes done at the dealer, then her warranty is VOID. (maybe they took advantage of the fact that she's a woman, so they're trying to convince her to do the oil changes and spend more $$)
When I called Mazda Canada, the woman on the phone told me i had to purchase my oil and filter 1 at a time and mark down the KM's after every oil change. She also told me i couldn't buy my oil in bulk cause that wont be proof enough that i actually did the oil change. If i followed these steps, she assured me I WOULD NOT void my warranty.
I then proceeded to tell the woman that i wanted to switch to fully synthetic motor oil, to which she responded that i wouldn't be allowed to and that would in fact void my warranty. She gave me some answer along the lines that Mazda doesn't recommend using Synthetic oil in their engines. Now that sounded quite strange to me. I always thought synthetic was better!
So what's going on here? Am i allowed doing my own oil changes? Can i use synthetic oil?
Talk about confusing!!!!!
