Want to move to upstate New York

if you haven't made up your mind yet :)

rochseter is nice - we are close to the mountains and fingerlakes, niagara falls. also there is a HUGE rock climbing gym downtown. a great city for all the things you say you like.

I agree with Mazdadriverchic... Smitty's does have a pretty damn good pizza.

I am from the Syracuse area, if you come into the area I will show you around, drop me a PM if you are interested.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I am trying to get to NY so that I can see the different places that people mentioned and to try to find a job. Still no decision made yet...

MMM HMMM!!! Damn, now I want some! lol!! We should all meet up and go there for dinner ;) LOL!

Let me tell you this. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE IN WESTERN NEW YORK.. (ie. Buffalo and surrounding area). The economy is really bad up there. What kinda of job are you looking for? NYC is definitely a good place for construction, business, IT finance etc fields, but it's not for everyone.

In the medical field. I am sort of a travelling nurse right now but I also do translation/interpretation and work with minorities. I hope to find a job in healthcare where I can use my language and business skills.

The economy here in Michigan is s*** right now too. Highest unemployment rate in the country I heard...

Right now that mix of skills will probably get you a job just about anywhere you want to go.

From what you describe. NYC is the best place for you.

I know NYC is would be the best place, but I just can't live that far from all the outdoors stuff that I like. I gotta get my outdoors fix.

NYC will cost you a fortune to live, check one of the upstate towns Syracuse, Rochester, Albany etc.

Many have state of the art medical facilities.

The outdoor stuff like snowboarding are within 1 hrs drive.

Rochester is a GREAT city. The nicest in upstate.

edit: downstate, eh? I live in Saugerties. It's nice...

I'll second Rochester. It's the only place I've lived in NY, and I've only lived here since September, but so far it seems nice. I've been to the Albany area extensively and the Rochester area seems a lot nicer. Downtown Rochester is pretty small by a lot of people's standards, but is has a very nice cultural district if you're into the whole Coffee Shop / Independent movies thing. I don't know about the mountains around here personally, but my roommate is a snowboarder and he goes with the ski club to I think it's called Bristol Mountain to go skiing and stuff.

I think Syracuse is pretty central to everything. 4.5 hours from NYC, an hour from the PA border, 45 minutes to Oswego, and hour to Rochester, 2 to Buffalo and about 2.5 hours from the Canadian border. I can make it to Toronto in just over 4. Liverpool, NY is where I reside and I like it here. I hate the weather, but that's because anything below 50 is too cold for me. I'd be more than willing to help out or tell you more if you want to contact me.
