Yes, search around, the comoon swap was to a JL 8W3.
Chances say if the sub isn't working its just a loose connection on it or a blown fuse onthe amps power wire.

Yep...1sty's got it. It'll sound better w/ a better speaker, but you may not get thump until loud volumes...then you start causing distortion and that wonderful farting. Check out "MSP Replacement plan" In here, or "subwoofer suggestions" for good ideas about brands to use, or methods for a swap! Enjoy!

it depends on your budget and how insanely loud you want it to be. What 1st MP3 is the most practical as far as easiest upgrade and the least expensive. A lot of MP3 and MSP owners have problems with the Kenwood sub/amp combo. I guess it is not a very good unit. Kenwood makes decent head units, but IMO that is the only thing I like that they make. Their amps are okay for subs, but their all-in-one sub/amp units seem to suck.

subsis workin

i got the sub workin again i hit something on the head unit by accident.. well i do wanna go with a loud bass the with the 3inch pipe-age i i cant hear any bass @ all !

So is the sub working now or not?
You can enable the sub output by holding down the am button for a few seconds.
If you are mentioning its still not enough, I would agree.

I see 3 JL 10w0's with a JL 500/1 in your future :D

if its not workin take it back to the dealership. its covered under warranty. Get it replaced. then sell it to another Protege Sedan owner so they can put it in their car. then get a new sup and amp. Or u can just replace the speaker in it. the 8w3 wont be powerd enough by the small Kenwood amp. Ud underpower and blow the JL, you could to the 8w0 or just add the 10"" kenwood powerd sub (from the mp3) to the 8 u have in there and have mid bass from the 8 and lower bass from the 10.

Thats my suggestion

Actualy that kenwood amp is a decent match with a JL 8W3. they only need 125 watts rms.

Doing a 10 and a 8 will be totaly counter productive unless they are in isolated frequency ranges.
