Hey I have a good amount of vynil that looks like carbon fiber, would it be possible to cover the hood with it? How will it hold up to the weather etc. Has anyone done this before?

Why would you want to do this? I have seen people paint their hoods black so that from a distance it looks like cf, but I don't know of anyone doing this with vinyl, but it should hold up to the weather fine. The purpose of a carbon fiber hood is to eliminate weight. Any vinyl overlay would look ricey in my opinion, and doesn't benefit you at all. If you want it to look like a cf hood, I would just try and save up for a real one.

(iagree)

ya thats what i did, i just saved up and got CF hood, its well worth it, it may seem like a lota lettuce for a hood, but youll love it i promise. Its a good conversation starter too.. even around non car people

I painted the center of my hood black along with a bunch of other stuff.

Why not get a C/F hood and then put the vinyl on your roof to match the hood?

Well I didn't exactly paint just the center of the hood.

John and I wet sanded off all the clear coat. Then block sanded the entire car. skuffed the rims. Put the valve cover in a high pressure parts washer for several hours. Fixed some door dings and hail damage.

Mixed some RM paint to factory Laser Blue Mica specs then added 6 oz of blue pearl per pint of LBM. The black was a mixture of a couple blacks with blue mica added in. Taped off the center of the hood and roof and 90% of the wing. Then painted it laser blue with pearl.

next we put on a zoom zoom sticker on the lower part of the rear doors and taped off for a racing stipe in the low 1/4th of the car.

Sprayed the black on the roof, the hood, the racing stripe, the wing and the rims. Then peeled off the zoom zoom sticker to reveal zoom zoom written in laser blue inside the black stripe.

After it was all done then 6 coats of clear coat were applied. Then john cut and buffed the entire car making it as smooth as glass.

Because John & I did it in his garage it saved me a ton of money. For what was done I could have easily spent well over $4K at an actual body shop.

^^^redneck, i sell the RM paint at my shop, and i just came across this new product that you might be interested, since i seen that you wanted to put the rockblock bra to protect your front end. it's called armor coat, it is like the viynal put it is sprayable, im planning on trying it some day on my front end and my rx-8 wheel (when i get them) will be painting them the same color as the car and this for the added protection. -www.armorauto.com
