I'm in the process of having mine done Now, I happen to know a Mazda Tech who happen to hear me start my car last weekend and he brought it to my attention that I shouldn't drive the car still I have it fix and by It I mean the VV-T Actuator.
I his words the Actuator has a locking pin inside of it that is suppose to lock the cam wheel in place on the cam shaft. So the noise he heard was the loose slack from the timing chain starts to spin before the actual cam shaft even moved. This can cause the Timing chain to pop.
Mazda quotes the job at 4 hours.
This is the bad actuator in the car now (notice the spring coming out of the actuator)
Here is the Update Replacement
And the Process involved (Special Mazda tools are required..SU I think rents the tools)
If you Think you have this issue get it looked at....... Quickly
