vtec?

variable valve timing electric control i think, has something to do with activating more lobes on the camshaft to change timing i think not sure ud have to check

Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control. And yes Mazda does have an equivalent. The JDM 1.5L I4(130hp) uses variable timing. It is a direct swap for the 1.6L Protege DX and LX.

and here i thought all u needed was a sticker man was i wrong(doh) ....lol

i was at work today and i thought about how the p5 didnt come with anything like it. i kinda wish we had something like that so the engine would be just a little more powerful

not so much as making it run better. it makes it run stronger and gives better passing acceleration at highway speeds. vtec is basically like having an economy/good driving cam and a lumpy high performance cam that comes on at a pre-determined rpm.

doesnt the miata's 1.8l have variable timing?
toyota calls theirs vvtl-i variable valve timing and lift control
bmw calls theirs VANOS
im tryin to think of others

im pretty sure all newer mazdas are running VVT variable valve timing...dont quote me on that though
im quoting u haha,
no not all mazdas, but the new 6 V6 does.

vtec controller, yea.. if you meant for civics, you can turn it on and off when you please with one, but if you turn it on too early it will run like crap etc.

damn i want something like that for my car

i mean my car hauls ass on the freeway but if i could get even more out of it, that would kick ass

ya vtec controllers are pretty cool, but you wont see them much on street cars, mostly for racing applications from what ive seen

13 years ago this was all an F1 pipe dream...

VTEC is the simplest form of variable valve timing more or less...some cars have something similar on only the intake track (Sentra SE-R spec V), but they are still on or off

VTEC-i and Toyota's VVTLi are a little more complex with much more ECU infulence...but still relatively simple...

BMW's Double Vanos system is VERY complicated and "steplessly" varies timing, lift, and duration for a seriously awesome power band...

Porsche uses my absolute favorite form known as VarioCam plus...I drove a Porsche GT-2 a couple of months ago which was owned by a friend of my Dad, and that system with the addition of two turbocharges made a 3,000lb car pull cleanly from about 17mph to 186mph in 6th gear!!! the car tops out very close to 200mph, but I ran out of room and I felt like a little girl...don't tell my Dad...

where the hell did you do 180+ and not get cought man i need to find that road!!

Route 220 in PA...Goes north/south from Maryland to Wilkes Barre or something...it goes right by my old house, where I lived before school...in that section it is a by-pass from Tyrone PA to Bedford PA, in which it is a four lane typical highway...fresh asphualt, about dusk but still plenty of light to see well...The fastest I have ever traveled on the ground (I've been in airplanes, but that doesn't count)...I don't think I would do it again...missiling around in some guys $186,000 machine is not very polite, but that thing was so ******* fast it made my eyes hurt plus it could out handle pretty much any car on the road...I hit 191mph I think on the way back, in that case I shifted at redline in every gear, so I got to speed much faster than just leaving it in 6th (which I actaully did by accident...the acceleration was still enough to make me not realize that I did it...My dumbass just thought it was turbo lag)
