I have the P0660 code. Does anybody know where you can just order a solenoid? I found a thread with a part number from 2009, but it didn't say where from. (FS05-18-741, if that is even right). Also if someone could post a picture of the actual solenoid too, I'd appreciate it.

This should be your solenoid you are looking for... It is a pretty common part on Mazdas, but gonna be mad expensive if you go through the dealership and doesn't exist in local auto parts stores as far as I can tell.

Your local pull-a-part would be cheapest, but you can get them from Parts Group down in Alabama for a reasonable price. They refer to it as a Miata Boost solenoid, web site shows $12. No direct link to the part, but this should get you close.

The cap on the backside is removable and goes on either end, so your's or other pictures may look a bit different. Usually "the vacuum solenoid that looks like an old choo-choo train" will jog someone's memory if you have them on the phone.

you can go to any junkyard and pull them off another mazda. both the vtcs and vics solenoids are the same. so u can pull it off of another protege with a 2.0 in it

They also came on 1.8 miatas, and I happen to get my last batch off a Mazda MPV minivan.

You can easily test them with some gator clips and a 9v battery. Touch the leads to the battery and you should hear a nice "click". If no click, or very sluggish click, then no bueno. These can be cleaned and lubed up, but that is hit or miss.

I've always wanted to rip into one and see what makes it work...
