HI. I my car makes a really loud noise when i use the gas (like i have an exhasust or something).

This isn't a picture of my car but mine is basically the same. The area where i circled is where the problem is. It was all black at the joint (it was like the sulfur stuff from when you burn something) and my mechancic said i would have to replace it (costing about $130 that i don't have). I think the air is escaping at the joint.

Is there any temporary fix i can do or do i have to replace it??

is there anyway for me to wrap something around it for the time being to prevent at least some of the air from getting out??

thanks

are the flanges cracked, or do you just need a new gasket?

It could be as simple as replacing the donut gasket at that point if it is broken. Are both spring-bolts and nuts still in place and not rusted horribly? If the actual flange is messed up then you're going to have ti get it welded/replaced/etc.

that seems like a good idea, but let's say i applied it and wanted to fix it the proper way down the road, would they be able to remove whatever parts they needed to even after i used the weld??
yes they could

another thing you might try is to take it to an independent muffler shop for another quote, often times they're cheaper than the big chains

The flanges on your J-pipe are probably broken...my P5 had the same problem last winter, and I used it as an excuse to get a header. $135 isn't bad...I know you don't have it, but I would be shocked if you got it done by anyone under $100. You could do it yourself for less.

how would i go about doing it myself??

a new J-pipe, an impact wrench and an afternoon. I would suggest the impact to get the bolts off, and I would also soak them in PB Blaster before going at them. I think there are 3 bolts that connect the J-pipe to the header cat and then the two that are the spring bolts. I would say if you're going to do it, consider a whole header. There's a how-to for the 2.0l header install somewhere that will give you more info. I would not attempt it without an impact wrench as the bolts are probably rusty and will be tough to get off.

that is, assuming the j-pipe flange is cracked and not the other flange
