The Fram #7317 oil filter for the 3.0L engine (Mazda 626) is 50% larger than the Fram #6607 for the 2.0L and will fit with no problem. Don't know if this works on the 1.8L or 1.6L or not. This will allow more oil to be filtered with each pass regardless of the pressure.
(Fram filter #'s are only used as a reference---use a cross-reference table for other filter brands, if desired.)
