i'll be sticking with this oil. the previous sample was amsoil euro 5w40.

Calcium is used in oil to reduce carbon build-up and the sludging effects that big swings in temperature coupled with moisture can create. Rotella looks to have reduced the amount of calcium but replaced it with magnesium. Magnesium does the same thing for oil as far as reducing carbon build-up, but it does a much better job at preventing the sludge.

Just in case anyone was intrigued by the report.

Looks good Bova. I'll probably be switching to Rotella 5w-40 in a month or so because of your findings.

if you want to know about the drag racing comment, i had just let them know i had gone to the track for 3 runs.

Ah, good to know. I'd like to say thanks for bringing this evidence to us. If you're showing us things like this and Mazda is certainly changing their tune about 5w-30, there isn't any reason for us to run 5w-30 anymore (or to argue about it for that matter).

Thanks for posting that UOA up. I'm considering switching to this, and the Wal-Mart nearby sells the 5 qt. jugs for $20. Anyone know of a store that carries it in 1 qt. bottles?

walmart actually only has 4qt jugs. mine also carries the 1qt jugs too, but they should also be at pepboys or advance.

here is my latest UOA on about 4000 miles of shell rotella t-syn 5w40. i love this oil. this wasn't at a change, this was just a sample so i'm going to take their recommendation and probably change it around 5k miles or so.

I have been on Rotella for 5 fills already, and the 4 UOAs Ive gotten all look nearly identical to yours Bova. On my current fill, I've gone a bit over 5k miles (which is about 1k more than the other runs), so Im anxious to see what this oil looks like after this extended run.
