Unichip EBC + large exhaust = 15-19 psi

I emailed about tuners anywhere close to northern nj and they only emailed me one shop. Then I emailed the shop, and they basically said that they would only tune the unichip if i bought it from them. Anychance we can get a list of authorized unichip tuners by state? Sure would make things alot easier for some of us.

I researched it alot. They say somewhere on there site, that the timing may be a little too much for some cars depending on a few things. Map B is prob fine for us in warmer weather. Thats why I just stick with the Map A. During winter, when I go to stock boost, I run Map B. I'll PM you a list of authorized tuners near Cincy. Jack at Unichip said he knows the guy at German Motor Cars. He specializes in Unichipping Porsches. He said theres alot of functions on the Unichip that are not enabled for us: dual stage rev limit, nitrous control, addtnl injector control, etc. Remember not all MSPs are the same. Add our cooler air, and Map B may be too much timing for some.

Called German Motor cars before. He chuckled when I said I drove a FWD and said he will not touch 'those type of cars'. "I don't touch Mazdas, you give my a Porche or equivalent, THEN I will talk to you". Pretty much laughed at me and gave an attitude. They won't do proteges and claim they can even put them on their dyno.

LOL

I guess that's not funny to you, but I found humor in it. :-X

I love my Blitz SBC i-D III eletronic dual silenoid boost controller!!! mated up with the Blitz PowerMeter car computer and I can control my boost levels via mph!!! and with it being dual silenoid no spiking !!! just straight up peppy-no-wheel-spin, up until I hit 37.5mph then "hold your ******* lunch down, throw you back in the seat back-to-the-future syle" hauling ass!!!!

and I can't wait til I'm properly fined tuned come this weekend or tonight "apoc prays!!" then we'll see what the atomic popsicle aka: orange crush will do!!!

Here you go guys, a PDF file with the Unichip tuners by state as of June 2004. I thought I had posted this before, but apparently not. Sorry.

I had the Unichip installed for about a month before I installed the boost controller solenoid. Before the installing the solenoid, I was running stock boost at about 5.5-6psi with my current mods (see signature). Now, after i installed the solenoid, on LOW boost setting, I am hitting about 9psi and on HIGH boost setting, I am hitting what seems to be over 15psi (my SW boost gauge only goes to 15psi). I think I heard a little pinging on HIGH boost setting at high rpms. Note, that I'm on california 91 octane. I didn't want to repeat it, so i didn't boost again on HIGH setting. On the LOW setting, it's great, runs great, pulls very, very strongly, no complaints there.

I'm not really having the same problem as you guys, cuz I'm running a stock exhaust. I'm wondering if anybody has any other info. The solenoid was barely used by the previous owner, he said he ran it once, but didn't want to run it on HIGH boost cuz he didn't have any other mods, so I don't think it's the solenoid. Do you think it's just because of the mods that i have? I am supposed to be picking up J-pipe back exhaust soon too, i hope this won't add to this issue. However, after I do get my exhaust, I will be taking it to a Unichip tuner near me to get a custom tune and some dyno time. I want to see what kind of numbers i am making. Right now, it feels like i am probably at about 170whp. with the exhaust, it will probably be a bit higher.

Any suggestions or comments?

The mods you have would have nothing to do with the issues you are experiencing. The Unichip has shown to work fine on bone stock and more modified applications than your setup.

I'll try to look into some things this weekend. Hopefully I'll have time.

Could it have to do with the vacuum tubing of the boost solenoid? I tried to make them as short and direct a path as possible. of the three ports on the solenoid, ports 2 and 3 are running the right size, 3/16" on port 2 and 1/4" on port 3. However, I couldn't get more 3/16" tubing on port 1, so i am running whatever leftover 1/4" vacuum tubing i had left and zip tied the ends to make it nice and tight. is this causing the problem?

do a search. there's lots of info on what to do when for your first mod.

now... getting back on topic......

I should be recieving my Unichip in the next day or so.......im currently running an open dump after the Downpipe, K&N OEM Box Filter, & a TurboXS MBC to control boost. I get major boost spikes with whatever im set at. Right now with the cold weather, i set it to hold at 7.5psi at WOT......if im not at WOT it will spike up to 11-12psi at acceleration......my guess is my dumped exhaust, it spools the turbo dramatically fast.
As soon as i get the Unichip installed this coming Monday or Tuesday, i will fill you guys in on how the car reacts.......

The Corksport DP will go in shortly after, and ill check in and see how it reacts to that also.....

Manual BC works great.
I never liked UC's BC for just that reason.
I experienced the same issues.
Ive seen anwhere from 12 - 15# spikes.
Its now sitting in my closet somewhere.

the LOW boost setting works great, i love it. although i think it's supposed to be at stock boost level, it's actually around 9-10psi. which is fine with me. I wanted it at that level and I don't mind driving with this daily. actually, i don't even boost that much cuz most of the time i'm going back and forth from home to work, which is only 5 miles. anyways, after i get my exhaust done, i'm gonna do a tune up and then go to the Unichip tuner near me to get some custom tuning done. Perhaps he can program the boost a little lower or something. I'm interested to see how good the preloaded map is or if the tuner needs to do alot of configuring.

Yes, post your results.
