UK CX-60 Traffic Sign Recognition Issues (100mph!?)

In June 2024 I purchased a new UK Mazda CX60 Takumi phev.
I have had some niggles that the local dealer is helping to resolve (e.g. rattles, loose tailgate latch - I think I will just need to live the “thwack & bump” of the suspension), but my main concern is the Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) system, in conjunction with the SatNav and Heads Up Display.
I have an almost daily occurrence of speed limits being shown (“advised” is what Mazda now call this!) as 5mph, 80mph or 100mph - this is occurring on roads that are actually 30, 40, 50 mph, and of course it is NOT LEGAL to drive at 80 or 100mph on public roads in the UK. I supplied numerous photographs to Mazda UK and indeed their sales manager has been able to recreate these situations on his CX60.
Mazda UK liaised with Mazda Europe and the local dealership has now applied (on different visits to them) a factory reset, a SatNav software upgrade and a complete SatNav re-mapping (although cannot explain to me why any of these would correct the TSR system).
So by default, in my opinion, Mazda UK/Eur did accept there was an issue, otherwise why try and fix it. None of their software upgrades have worked and I continue to get spurious speed limits showing.
Mazda now say, and I paraphrase, “….that the TSR is working to specification….. it is only advisory information….. the driver should be aware of surroundings and make the appropriate decision on whether to ignore the “advice” from the TSR system….”. Mazda say that the TSR can pick up traffic signs from the back of other vehicles, side roads, car parks, other traffic signs (e.g. a 10t bridge weight limit is translated by Mazda’s TSR to “100mph” speed limit!).
Clearly advising a driver to drive illegally, at a speed way above the country’s national speed limit can be ignored - but if you are using the SatNav and in an area the driver is not familiar with, what is the correct speed to then drive at?
I have asked Mazda if the TSR can be switched off or disabled, but apparently it cannot.
Anybody else had similar issues with their new CX60 and have a (Mazda) based solution (I.e. not using Apple CarPlay, google maps, etc)?
Thanks.

In my CX-60 PHEV (Homura) it can be turned off and stays off. One of the first systems I turned off once I discovered it's a half-baked technology (as was the case in 2 other brand cars I drove over the last couple of years).

Thank you for your prompt response @Gajdzin.
Strange that the local dealership and Mazda UK have put in an email to me that the TSR can NOT be switched off. The CX60 is actually in the dealership today to get the tailgate latch replaced (won’t lock securely and constantly “chattering” when driving - very irritating on a new, premium vehicle at £50k). I shall ask again when I collect the car - is it a dealership technician change or through the Infotainment/settings menus?
Thank you again.

Oh Come on, how have drivers managed speed limits for the last 100+ years of vehicular and road existence?

All the more reason why these electronics are not necessary and should not be sold in vehicles.

I hear ya @Saintboothy …It’s unfortunate that this system does not seem to function as intended (yet, perhaps it will someday). It would be really nice to be notified of the speed limit especially when driving through an unfamiliar area where identifying speed limits may be more difficult.

I hope everything works out, please do keep us updated!

@Gajdzin Thanks for chiming in with your CX-60 experience as always, it’s very much appreciated!

I don't remember which menu, because it was over a year ago, but I definitely did it myself through the menus, not at the dealer. OK, I can't swear the system is technically off, and that's probably what your dealer meant. But it's silent, doesn't give any warnings when exceeding the speed it "detected" and doesn't display anything on the head-up display (which was my main concern - very distracting, having the occasionally wrong information on the windshield).

Mazda UK have deigned that the TSR is “…working to specification…”, but cannot explain if that was the case why they have tried to apply 3 software upgrades?? By coincidence as I approached the local Mazda dealership the TSR changed the speed limit sign to 90mph…. in a 30mph zone (although is also 20 zone during school hours). I have no idea where the Mazda camera system is getting this information, it is clearly not official road signs or when it is it can be useless (e.g. a 10t bridge weight warning converted to 100mph …..in a 30mph zone!).
So I continue to get spurious “advice” from the the Mazda on almost a daily basis - most of which is illegal (e.g. 80, 90 or 100mph) or far too slow (e.g. 40 on a UK motorway) and Mazda says this acceptable.
Their advice is for me to now enter into legal action and/or the UK Motor Ombudsman.

Settings, In-Vehicle Displays, Active Driving Display, Active Driving Display Content - uncheck “Traffic Sign Recognition”. It does seem to revert back to a default of on for each new journey. I have now saved my Driver Personalisation settings with TSR unchecked and hope it will keep this setting.
Hopefully the vehicle will now ignore any Tom, Dick or Harry sign that is within a 180 degrees view of its camera(s)!
