Uh oh (transmission)....

Ok, first of all, I am not what you call a street racer or exceedingly hard driver. I haven't had any major transmission problems like many are describing, but I have had winter "stickiness" when shifting, and an occaisional 1st->2nd grind. The problem is, during/after my roadtrip to South Carolina, I noticed that when I would shift from 1st into 2nd at about 4500 rpms, the car kind of jerks instead of a smooth shift, especially at a cold start (although it was like 85 degrees out). Never really did this before.

The last few times I've been on the on-ramps getting onto the interstate, I will go to about 5500-6000 rpms to just have a little fun. I've probably grinded 1st-2nd a couple of times this past week!!! Am I just not getting the clutch all the way down? Or is this something I should have my dealer look at during my semi-monthly bushing fix?

I sure hope its not the dreaded transmission problem. A few people on ProtegeClub (sorry) have mentioned that switching transmission fluid to Redline MT90 has really smoothed out their shifts, and motul fluid for the clutch has helped disengage the clutch quicker since it seems to want to be pressed ALL THE WAY to the floor which is a bit uncommon.

Grrrr.

I think someone else mentioned in a different thread that people are having a hard time shifting into 2nd gear at higher rpm's 5500 to 6000rpm, but if u have grinded the gears i would have the dealer inspect your tranny, how long have u had your car? If I were I'd check the tranny fluid and take it to the dealer ASAP! Better to fix it now if it's a small problem then to fix it later if it becomes a big problem.

Well today after cold start and getting into normal temperatures, i shifted at 6,000 rpms and it worked fine. I can't tell if I am just off sometimes or what. The fact that it grinds so easy, I should probably just have them check it out along with the suspension noise. How long does it take them to inspect synchros etc? I need my car for a small business trip in the next few days and don't want to be without it, so I need to figure out when to schedule.
