Hello,
First off, I must confess that I feel like a real idiot right now. I took my 2011 CX-9 Grand Touring apart to change the waterpump a couple of weeks ago. It had 175K, so I figured I may as well replace the timing chains, tensioners, etc. I ordered a kit, and when the kit came in, it was the wrong one. So, not to take any chances, I ordered the correct parts from the dealer. Now, a couple of weeks later, i am starting to complete the work. And I am stressing that I may have locked the cams in place out of time.
Cams are locked with the locking tools. Cam sprockets and chains are intact. Timing chain is off. Both the main intake sprockets have the correct timing marks on the inside, over the intake cams. I did not mark or scribe the chain prior to taking it off the crank and cam sprockets.
Now, before going any further, I am double checking what I have done so far, and having some doubts that I am actually at TDC.
Any idea how I can confirm? What should the cam lobes look like to confirm on both sides of the engine? Through the spark plug hole, I measured each cyl height to the top of the spark plug "tubes", and they are as follows: Cyl 1=17.2cm; 2=24.3cm; 3=24cm; 4=24.2cm; 5=17.2cm; 6=24.4cm. These are all approximate. Cyl 1 and 5 both appear to be at TDC, or pretty close, based on the cam lobes and measurements. Do I have a problem? Any way to confirm my timing is OK? Suggestions? I'm kind of stressed out right now, and appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Dave
