U.S.-spec 2012 Mazda 2 info

Has anyone heard when the U.S.-spec 2012 Mazda2s will start arriving, or what updates or changes we'll see in the U.S. version?

The Mazda3s are already here, yet mazdausa.com has no configurations yet for the 2012 Mazda2.

Seems there will be no SkyActiv Mazda2 for 2012.

I was also under the impression that the 2012 models for the Mazda3 would be offering SkyActiv. Is that not the case?

it was hoped the 2's would be sky...but I think they were only using the sky's in the 2 in japan and probably moving to sky for the following year for the 2...In a couple years you never know...maybe we will see a ms2 ;-)

I am kinda hoping that there is no Skyactive for the Mazda2 in 2012. That way at least there is SOME hope of more performance products being made for the current ZY engine.

good point....we gotta autox these byotches...and they need more power! ;-)

Even if they sell the Skyactive engines here. I really don't see them being performance oriented. The current engine has more power to start out so it is a better base for N/A, and for boost the skyactive is not the good choice since the compression is so high. MY facts about the sky engines might be slightly old though.

I do like the fact that our cars might be the highest HP 2's once the sky engines come out. Unless they make a speed.

The SkyActiv Demio (Mazda2) uses a CVT transmission. It's already established that there will be no SkyActiv Mazda2 in the U.S. this year.

So, no one has heard rumors about when the 2012 Mazda2 will show up here, or what changes it'll have?

My guess is that it'll be the 2013 Mazda2's that come with the Sky engines. Hopefully they won't come with the CVT here though. If they do a Sky-G with 5- or 6-speed ATX I'll be a happy camper.

The Sky-equipped 2012 3's were supposed to be available this fall, but from what I've been reading they've been bumped out to early next year as a 2012.5 model. Part of me suspects this is due to the 2; if the Sky 3's came out now, Mazda would have a lineup where its smallest car actually gets worse gas mileage (on paper) than one of its larger models. Launching the Sky 3's next spring shortens that window.

A local dealer told me today that the 2012 Mazda2s should be a late arrival, meaning Nov/Dec-ish. There may be a couple of option and/or color changes, but that's it, per his Mazda rep.
