TWM Shift Knob Came In!

My new shift knob came in, woohoo!!

The pictures they have on the site don't do it justice ... the thing is awesome. Smooth, heavy (feels like 2x heavier than the stock MP3 knob but I didn't weigh it), and actually long enough to fit all the way down to the boot if you want it to (which I do).

Anyway, pics:

The stock one on a TWM shifter, for comparison:

The TWM knob, from the side:

The TWM knob, from the top (I've managed to get dust on it already ... argh):

TWM threads these for your shifter, so it screws right on. It does come with set screws, though, so you can height-adjust it. I put mine all the way down though, and just set the screws where the TWM logo would be horizontal. It's a very nice fit. Very tight and precise feeling.

So far, it definitely feels easier to shift (due to the weight, I guess). WELL worth the money, if you ask me.

do you have a TWM SS as well?
EDIT: ok, sorry, just re red the original post my bad :oh:
Looks great btw :)

Lucky guy. :)

The more I use this thing, the more I like it ... everything just feels so much more solid.

And I just realized a fringe benefit. My fiancee is now less interested in driving my car because she'd have to freeze her hand every time she shifts (winter and all). I think I just accidentally added about 20k miles to the life of my car.

(yippy)

haha well, I'm gonna have to teach my lady how to drive stick one of these days myself, cold or not, and it gets damn cold here lol, luckily I'm an avid glove wearer

Their short shifter is not out yet.

not only is it out, there are verisons of it and they'll thread it to your liking (mp3, msp, p5...)

I have the second gen, love the damn thing =)

just thinking about it, after you shifter warms up wouldn't the knob too?
Yes, it does ... takes a while though. Quite pleasant in the cold weather, actually ... Oops, so much for that extra 20k miles.

That must be it ... I've had mine on for months. It'll be worth the wait when you get it.

You know, that could be a really good idea ... I could just see the inside of my car getting a little humid (Louisiana = humid all year), the temp dropping overnight, and getting myself frozen to the shifter. :D

I just got my TWM knob to go on my TWM short shifter and all I can say is WOW! This thing is awesome, it's gonna be really cold, but the quality of the construction, how pretty it is, and the way that it is weighted is going to be fantastic, well worth it in my opinion. Can't wait to get in the car with my 2nd gen short shifter.

How much better is an aftermarket shiter compared to the MP3 factory shifter? Is it really worth the money to replace it?

Don't let your meat loaf!

well, I have a MSP shifter, not an MP3 shifter, but I believe they are identical except for the threads.

If you want a shorter shift, then it makes a big difference, and I am serious when I say that it made a noticeable difference in the length of my throws for shifting. I can get through the gears quicker and revs don't drop as much, plus in combination with my kartboy bushings, it just feels very solid, I like it. A lot less play and slop then there was before.

The shift knob itself doesn't really make the much difference in the mazdaspeed, it's just personal preference. I could have gotten a universal fit, but I liked the idea of the thread matching on the TWM. And if I remember right, it will be shorter then the default height of the MP3 shifter.

The threads on the MSP shifter are different from both the Regular Protege and MP3.
