TWM first gen vs second gen shifter?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew what the practical difference between the first and second gen TWM short shifter is. I know that the second gen comes with bushings with ball bearings, but what kind of difference does that make, and how good is the first gen? I'm buying a used first gen from someone, so wanted to check up on that first.

the first generation would be similar to the kartboy shifter but very slightly lower. You are correct the only difference between the 2 gen is the ball bearing. here are pictures of both from back in the days. The ball bearing will not make that much of a difference.

I'm a fan of the ball bearings honestly. Smooth snick snickery

Nice post with the photos. Looks like the MSP shift knob wouldn't work with the 2nd gen version due to the shorter threaded stud. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks, those pics help a lot!

That's an interesting point you bring up, Josh. It does look like the notch on the older one is lower. Real difference, or visual illusion? It would be kinda cool if it fit an MSP knob because I might want to get a weighted knob. It would be kinda ironic for my knob to cost more than the shifter, though.

Hmm, I just installed it and the shifter is now insanely tight, to the point that when I try to shift sometimes I can't get it to go in gear.

The stock bushings were a really tight fit to get into the bottom of the TWM shifter, I had to use a lot of force to get them in, and a lot of force to get the bolt into the bushings. Anyone experience this before?

Is there a short shifter that you guys can recommend? Don't know whether to use Kartboy, TWM, or B&M. And what does a weighted shifter do and where can I get one?
Thanks

I'm a Kartboy at heart...it's a great SS and there are only a few left, and you can get them here for a great price. Get the bushings as well, and I would recommend the Greddy weighted shift knob to complete the package...a blast to drive!
